Information regarding AMD RX 6000 series driver updates.

Yeah. Similar things happen with Star Citizen. I don't think AMD's rewrite of DX11 and it's drivers post 22.5.1 did this game and SC any favors. It doesn't look all that promising AMD is going to put much time into this. It being 6 months ongoing now...

I still can't be doing with the complete lack of a functioning lighting system in 4.0, I don't have that much nostalgia for Elite on the BBC Micro that I can get by with flat white lines rather than proper emissive light sources. So I am not too bothered with how long it takes AMD to make the drivers compatible, it'll still most likely be sooner than Frontier restore some kind of lighting system to 4.0.
And in the meantime I'll stick with 144fps in 3.8 rather than 60-80fps in 4.0

I mean, I can say the same for SC, but the crashing sucks and don't feel like we should have to wait so long for that to be resolved.... Not like this AMD card was a cheapy by any means... Anyways.

I'm really happy with my 3090.

For the next gen stuff I really like the AMD hardware but the driver issues that plague AMD continues to give me pause.

If I had to do a build today I'd get a bargain 3090 or at least a 3080Ti.

Might just be the best bang for the buck.

Yeap, since my daughter moved out like 2years ago, i thought i may as well get her room repurposed 😂
So i was contemplating to return to desktop* and an rtx3080ti would be just enough for me to play in 1440p on at least a 27" display, preferably a 32"

*(been using gaming laptops roughly for 12 years already)

EDIT: Didn't need to wait, I was back to stutter and then full system locks with Elite, so the 22.5.1 drivers allow you to land on planets, but crash my AMD system. Bah humbug. Will submit a manual bug report to them too.
There must be something else in your PC that makes it unstable. The Radeon driver 22.5.1 has never crashed my AMD system, though ED Odyssey does crash with it quite often when I approach a fast-moving landable body, but there is no better driver currently for me.

Dude... with a 3080ti, you could go 4k quite easily. At least in Star Citizen you should get at least 60 minimum and around 75fps at that resolution in most places. (not sure about Elite Dangerous, but I suspect similar or better). I mean. I get over 85 at times all settings maxed at 4K in Star Citizen.
But, a game like Cyberpunk would definitely be more of a challenge. I you don't mind having ray tracing off in that title, you shouldn't have too much issue getting 60fps at 4k.
Need to revisit the chart comparisons..

My RX 6600 gets a decent FPS that remains above 60 in almost all scenarios on CP77 at 1440p, high or ultra on all graphics settings, with RT off and FSR 2.1.2 quality on (Potato's mod is still better than the official implementation of FSR 2.1.0 in patch 1.6.1 as CDPR are stilll playing catchup due to their patches needing to go through certification processes etc.)
A 3080TI would have no problem whatsoever exceeding that.

In ED my system runs 3.8 at ultra settings, 1440p, almost never drops below 144fps, and when it does only to like 140. Horizons 4.0 runs at between 60-80fps but the FPS is constantly yo-yoing between those numbers, it's all over the place. Again, a 3080TI would probably manage a reasonable improvement on those numbers.
What my card can manage at 1440p, it's not unreasonable to expect a 3080TI managing similar performance at 4k. Though if like me you prefer FPS, then it should be very much solid for high fps 1440p gaming.

I cannot -believe- this is still an issue. If Fdev had any scrupules, a problem like this would have taken the game off the store page until it was fixed. Literally can't play anything that touches planets like this. Which affects a significant portion of the base game and nearly 100% of the expansion. In some jurisdictions this would be grounds for a refund, depending on time of purchase.

They really don't ing care anymore, do they?

I'm sure you could ask AMD for a refund, if their driver stops you playing just 1 game :ROFLMAO:

Which, of course, the recommended driver doesn't have an issue with. 🤷‍♂️

In all fairness it should have some sort priority. If FDEV can't fix it on their own - they should go a bit public about it. "We will let you know if anything changes" is not a statement.

Well, AMD themselves didn't manage to fix it, despite a claim in their last driver update that thay had.
(But as long as folk are happy blaming Frontier for their woes...)
