Would really love to see accretion disk

I heard the one in Interstellar was supposed to be quite realistic.

Would really love to see accretion disk

I wonder how it would look like, the accretion disk that is. Like in Star Wars or Star Trek or SG1? The fact seams to be that we never have seen one in real life. And I guess that is the reason why Fdev does not implement it, yet. Here is an interesting linkt: Link Fly/land safe. CMDR Steyla

Why limit Colonia engineering to only cmdr’s who’ve engineered with specific engineers before?

I might be alright with them adding in the occasional accretion disk around black holes. Gameplay? How about not dying, if you're lucky and skilled enough? :)

About those dark spike things - they remind me a lot of the ice "asteroids" in the accretion disk from "Titan A.E.". About the Krait's HUD colours/shapes - we were already told mining would have its own HUD (which is when it's shown). That's (probably) all this is; hoping for customisable HUD...

Will Fdev Update Black Holes In Game ?

...the image looks pretty much as expected, and well in line with Fdev's representation of the gravitational lensing of a black hole. An accretion disk in ED would be nice though, and even better the possibility to get past the event horizon. It probably hurts a bit, but who doesn't want to see...

    Black holes.. yet another disappointment

......which is probably more like what the OP was hoping for. What'd be really cool is if BHs (and neutron stars and white dwarfs) in close binary systems had accretion disks. This is a neutron star with an accretion disk directly in front of a nearby white dwarf companion also from Space Engine:

Black Hole orbited by White Dwarf and Ringed Neutron

Sweet find! Almost looks like an accretion disk on the neutron star. [yesnod] The below is one of my favorite systems I've found in the galaxy so far. Your find is giving it a run for the money.

There are to be some UI changes though. I am hopeful that we can move the UI panels around to where we want them to be within reason.

Request to make Black holes in the game act like, you know, black holes....

Accretion disk would be pretty cool, but you don't need an extra subclass of black holes for that.

Make Black Holes a more Dangerous encounter

Seconded In elite dangerous maybe. But a video game is not real life. I think Black Holes in game were meant to just be points of interest as opposed to something that can actually kill you. I feel like you should word your argument better so people like me don't get confused and think you're...

OK, I said I’d disclose my latest hypothesis which IMHO makes sense of most of what we know. The key is that David Braben loves astronomy! I pursued various astronomy-based Google treks, which found some interesting things about Sirens and Whisperers which then led to this hypothesis that...

Black holes: Cool in Fortnite. Boring in Elite Dangerous

In a very strict sense, yes. Since one cannot fly into a black hole and take direct measurements and report them back, exploration of black holes remains interestingly an inherintly unscientific endeavor. However the question is, do you consider exploring it mathematically scientific? If so...

    Can pulsars exist without companions?

Just watched this over lunch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17UIzNou_8s In elite, the majority ive seen are by themselves. At the very least, they are missing an accretion disk (and logically the source of it). Apologies if im late to the party for this.

Don't you think that Exploration should be more Dangerous?

...explorers. Regarding black holes, I'm hoping they'll eventually become the dangerous things they should be, including a very active accretion disk, full of energy being generated by the action of the BH drawing these atoms in closer and closer into oblivion, where as they gain enough energy...

    Can pulsars exist without companions?

Thanks again for the info. Its still easy to rationale that the light streams we see in game would be produced by an accretion disk however.. and we don't see them!

Would really love to see accretion disk

Yes! More "normal" space stuff would be awesome! I don't get why it always has to be aliens, brain trees or whatever. I'd love to see more natural phenomena.

You seem to forget the acceleration gradient near such objects. Tidal forces are real nasty near stellar BH. Rotating BH that frame drag should also be anything but boring when using a frame shift drive near them...

...you arrive in the system. Not knowing if you're arriving at a black hole that is starving (cold, dark, almost invisible), feeding (superhot, structured with an accretion disk and polar jets) or engorged (hot, violent with explosions of plasma, ionized gas and gamma rays) fits the scary bill.

Black hole Content: Part 2, Interactivity (Hypercharging)

Following my other suggestion, this one goes hand in hand with one of the features discussed. Accretion Disks. This will add a whole new level to Black hole interactivity and purpose. This is where I suggest another form of FSD Supercharging, or for this case. we will call it "FSD Hypercharge"...

I found a brown dwarf with an accretion disk!!!

Whats the difference between an accretion disk, and rings? Hrm... I guess with an accretion disk, you'd expect it to be a lot larger, and I suppose it would consist of gas, as much as harder matter. And maybe, as its getting pulled into a hot body, you'd expect it to be hot, maybe even starting...

Also, a ring system isn't the same thing as an accretion disk. An accretion disk is a mass of matter spiralling into the event horizon of a black hole.

I found a brown dwarf with an accretion disk!!!

It could also be a ring of matter falling into a proto-star, which is what this brown dwarf can be considered. So I hold true to my original description. I found a brown dwarf with an accretion disk.

    Suggestion: Hyper-Factor (MetaDrive?)

I assume you're referring to frame dragging that apparently causes the accretion disk around a rotating black hole to move faster than light? If so, I don't know how you can make the leap from that to the possibility of FTL ship travel, which is what we're talking about here, as there is no...

Some black holes should have jets too...

...but that's not the same thing as "sucking." There is no jet coming from the black hole. There is, however, a jet coming from the accretion disk (if such a disk exists, and if it's large enough). Material in the disk is traveling at different speeds, with material very near the event horizon...
