1,000,000 Ly Club

I found this old thread about those that have travelled over a million light years in game (I'm about 65,000 Ly from achieving that).

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/244036-One-Million-Light-Years-Away/page4

and wonder why Frontier hasn't made a decal or something for those that achieve such milestones. It would be nice if there where things in game you you could earn. Like triple Elite or going to Sag A or Beagle point. Or maybe a special commemorative paint-job for really amazing achievements. Just something for players to aim for beyond just the satisfaction of doing it. Maybe for things that can't easily be exploited.

Just a thought.

Edit. I know about distant worlds and player groups, but I am thinking of things that a solo player could achieve.

I had an idea in the past that there would be say 10-15 achievements in game that are major like "Triple Elite, Visit Sag A*" etc which are account specific. Do it once and it stays done even with reset save. For each of those milestones you can choose a single store item for free.
The thought behind it being that everyone can have a few things for a few ships but obviously once those 10-15 run dry they'll still be getting or flying different ships and a fair few may start spending money. For those that buy things sure FDev loose a bit of cash but it may incentive the large group of people that are on the fence. And for the group that have self control and never buy cosmetic extras they get some freebies for doing the milestones and FD don't really loose any money as they'd not have spent anyway.

Anyway, I do also like the idea of specific decals/paintjobs etc for in game events/milestones, I'd also love it if these were kept secret so we (as a community) just stumbled across them.

+1 from me That's a good idea and I'd like to see that ingame. Alex' suggestion in addition is also very good. Even though I'm one of the rather... well... [where is it] let's say silly ones :D;) who have bought a fair bunch of paintjobs and whatnot...

I think the best reward would be the means to travel back through a known path you have travelled much faster than passing through unknown space for the first time. That way you would have real incentive to explore deeper without the frustration of the return journey and frankly painful repetition of long distance travel in a procedural galaxy. Sensibly you could pass that off by saying your Nav computer can make longer jumps in known space combined with tangible gameplay reward proportional to the effort made by the pilot. In other words the intrepid explorer sees the greatest benefit whilst the fast-track player is still bound by the normal constraints (and don't get something for nothing).... win/win

Yup, I agree too. Let some guy just be surprised with "Right On Commander!" and in the message following it says "You have been awarded a XYZ decal as a token of recognition for your achievement".

Then we'll suddenly get a spate of players doing crazy things like diving into binary stars, or slamming full speed into a station wall in a tricked-out, engineered 800m/s drive ship, just to see if they'll unlock a decal :D

Sounds like a good idea to me.

As I've said before, if FDev released a little "app" which allowed you to import Jpeg images and converted then to the proper size, palette and format, I'm sure the community would be quite happy to spend some time designing decals for them.

I'd certainly rather have decals which actually mean something instead of the current collection of random images which (aside from decals such as the "Distant Horizons" one) mean absolutely nothing and are simply window-dressing for your spaceships.

I would love to have that decal. Personalization is one of my favourite things :D

Yes, I think a genuine issue is that while FD are dutifully constructing more 'richness' for players to ascend the ranks, there's a danger that it will have little relevance to people who have already ascended the ranks, so if you've been playing from the game's release and you don't want to delete your commander and refuse to buy a second account, you may feel a bit miffed there's not much left to strive for. I've been rambling on about "Elite - with Oak leaf cluster -and Stars! for a while now. :)

Nor does it imply public.

But yeah, what would be a video game club, without its fair share of bragging rights. And to brag, you sure need people to look at you.

Yeah, that's silly.

Now, what if we had the ability to summon a vehicle to take us home, maybe with a whistle? Let's call it... "Roach"?
i put a suggestion for being able to book passage for yourself and your ship to certain hub destinations. this was because it was taking months for me to work my way back along colonia route because it was already explored and i had an unmodded asp ex so only 26ly range max. it was so depressingly dull coming back it was deterring me even logging in to play. if i had been able to book passage to a world on the edge of the bubble from one of the colonia waystations for myself and my ship it would have been much faster, even if i had to not log in for a week or so to let the journey happen in real time. if people can book passage on your ship why cant players pay to transport their ship in the hold and themselves in a passenger cabin? for a suitably big price. i would have paid 10 million credits to skip that last 3 months of logging in and doing 3 or 4 jumps and logging out to play something more fun...
