1.3.05 all red down arrow on ALL major factions and related subfactions!

This is a brand new one!
Immediatly after 1.3.05, in my factions tab ALL the major factions AND the subfactions aligned get the red down arrow!
And I've not completed any mission or performed something against! And Allied with all 3 major factions
Im' really wondering what's happening...

Just logged in after the patch and 3 CZ mission with 8 to 15 hours left on the clock I had outstanding have all been updated to FAILED along with the red arrows across the board.

Where in the change log is this explained? I had this happen Tuesday, see below:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=158062

1.3.05 apparently eventually implemented the quite important change to reputation decay system which Sandro had announced during the 1.3 beta, but somehow got complete forgotten/omitted from the 1.3 release and the four subsequent updates. Now, as it had always been meant to ever since that announcement, reputation decay occurs for all three major factions. Since the minor faction reputation is the combined result of its individual and its major faction's reputation (only where applicably, of course; it basically considers the higher reputation of the two), and unless that minor faction is, individually, at a higher reputation than its major faction, the effective reputation goes down together with the major faction#s reputation - and up again, too, so to counteract this decay, anything that gains your major faction rep offsets this decay entirely, for the entire major faction.

I would assume if you have a minor faction with a reputation higher than its major faction, it wouldn't show a red arrow down since the effective reputation for that minor faction doesn't change at all. It is still a bit irritating to see all these red arrows, and next to impossible for us to ever check whether the system is working properly (i.e. individual minor faction rep does not actually change) without some heavy experimenting near the reputation level boundaries, but in principle this is now in line with how reputation gains and losses have always been displayed.

P.S.: To make this clear, I still think rep decay in itself is a bad idea and should be entirely scrapped, but at least it is much less severe if happening only for the major factions, as they are much less specific in what you have to do and where, and independent factions should no longer be affected (I will test this today, and check out Shinrarta Dezhra).

  • ''For very high faction reputations, changed decay to apply only to major factions instead of only minor factions''- from the patch notes.
  • I only work for the Federation, I am not pledged to anyone, I am an Admiral in rank, will this rank go down if I only trade with Federation stations (Mephane says no), and will my rank go down if I do not play the game for some weeks please folks.?
  • I understand that if I just keep on trading or doing the odd mission I can keep my rank from too much depreciation but I still do not understand if my rank will go down if I am away from the game for some time, say 2 to 4 weeks...?
  • Oh just got to say thanks to Mephane...he has explained the reputation decay to me a lot better than that little line in the patch notes....Repped.

What's the deal with wanting us to grind, grind and grind with everything? :(

/rhetorical question.

Not a complaint, merely an observation: because aside from PvP, the game is really just a spreadsheet - there's nothing to do other than add numbers. Well, unless you're one of those "I like to fly around and look at the pretty stars" crowd. Buncha hippies. :D

Actually, I can't get into elite, crashes at startup. So I guess I'll face decay because reasons. Terrible design choice. I can't imagine what idiot would think decay is a good idea in the first place.

It's 'supposed' to work so that your rep will drop slowly with major factions only. And it should only decay during gameplay time, not during offline time. It will also only drop down to Friendly status and stop there. This was in one of the Dev updates.

Personally, I think it's one of the worst design decisions made by FD, and I've gone on record before saying as much :(

With all the missions tied to minor faction rep, what effect does your major faction rep really have?

Missions regard the higher of the two. If you are allied with the Federation, for example, you will be offered the missions requiring allied status from all its minor factions.

Now, I hopped into the game and I must say, I still have no idea how much it decays per downwards tick, but the ticks appear just too often. In less than 2 hours of playing I have seen the downward tick twice already. Depending on what you do, red arrow down will be a constant irritating sight. It is entirely possible that these frequent ticks are so small that a single mission could offset the effect from days of decay (optimistically speaking), but when you are out exploring, for example, or just in the space of a different major faction, you will see red arrows all the time.

Edit: Just had a 3rd tick down. It seems they occur every hour.

Yea I just played for an hour or so and I managed to get all my ''arrows'' up and in ''blue'' after starting and they were all red. It took me about 6 or 7 donation missions and 3 delivery missions to go all blue again.
This reputation decay is not a good idea and since I have especially stayed away from power-play because I do not wish to get the troubles of mixing loyalties with conflicting powers I thought I would be o.k. to just stay on the more simpler Feds verses Empire/Alliance sides, but it appears that you have to grind to even keep that kind of game reward that so far gives me Nothing Extra to be an Admiral but more interdiction's and the need to constantly grind just to be called an Admiral.
That's a big No Thanks from me FD, I will wait for what I wanted to gain the rank for, the Federal Corvette, but after that then if this system still exists then goodbye Feds and to the reputation decay and they can just listen to me blowing raspberries at it after that.
Listen FD...we do not wish to be tied down.......I am told that even though I wanted the lowest level of responsibility in the game, occasional work for the Federation, that to even have that I have to constantly ''please the locals'' and cannot play how I wish too. I am not doing anything other than trading between 2 Federation stations and I have to constantly please them just to ''keep them sweet''....Rubbish !!! That's not a big ''sand-pit''...that's a boring narrow path I do not wish to follow. Looks like I really will be playing on my own for no one looking for nothing soon. That way my Reputation will not matter and I will not care anymore......Roll on Fallout 4.

Okay, if it decays by that much this is really bad. I hoped that since these ticks come so fast, at least their individual effect is tiny. What you are describing basically means a typical casual player will hardly even be able to reach or maintain allied at all, without devoting all their time towards it.

Of course it will drop. That's what you get for having a life outside of this game, everybody who dares to do that clearly needs to be punished.
(Sorry, but sarcasm is the very only way i can handle this stupid decission to punish players for having a life. )
