I was wondering if i pay and buy the chrome plating for my ship, will that stop paint wear and tear as my ship will have no paint. maybe its just me but i find it a bit silly that light speed capable spacecraft would be painted.

The paint will still wear, CMDR Shar.
It will also not reflect thermal weapons like lasers and plasma.
To do that you need the mirror hull enhancement.
However, my chrome cobra sure looks awesome under any kind of lighting.
It has a beauty black sheen on the hanger deck.

Same here, I dont care about the minor fixes if the game is unplayable since 1.4 due to the super cruise stuttering so bad that you have complete double vision in inhabited systems.
How come I can't see this with my crappy 1G videocard and duo core ancient Pentium?

Mirrored hull surely that wont need painting, i must have it, ill be able to check my hair and makeup more often. and as a secondary use reflect laser beams its just win win.

The mirrored enhanced hull, (found in Outfitting) funnily enough doesn't look mirrored externally.
You need the chrome skin for that.

Strange as it sounds, it seems to affect more powerful systems.
I wonder if those lucky fellers would have better luck if they run their video cards with no overclocking.

That's correct; it has something to do with preloading the shaders, I believe. Heard a bit about AMD drivers... I don't have it with a Nvidia GTX 750ti, but I know someone who does have it with a Titan. It is a Mystery.

That might be part of it. I quit overclocking long ago when it was apparent I was slowly cooking my silicon. I get "overclockers" parts because of the headroom.

I've tried downclocking to below reference spec. I don't think it's a speed thing, some kind of software incompatibility seems more likely. Problem is that we're all fumbling in the dark on this one as nothing technical has been told to us and I'm too old to start digging in to it.

There are people who are trying to collect statistics to work out commonalities, but they are repeating the work FDev have already done and are keeping secret.

I'm not bitter.

I am also getting the "preparing shaders" thing....though it's not a problem.

No; "preparing shaders" is normal. It used to just sit at a black screen while that happened but they put in the message so you wouldn't think you were stuck. It's only running your video card through its paces to check settings... even if you already chose a graphics mode in your game setup.

The part I wrote about shaders is another issue entirely. I'd suspect, like you, that OCing might have something to do with it.

Actually, in real life, corrosion is a problem on spacecraft, here in orbit around Earth. Materials get bombarded with atomic oxygen particles, and this does things like corroding aluminum and other materials. There's also ionizing radiation, which will cause spacecraft materials to break down, there's pitting by micrometeorites. It's a problem, it affects the International Space Station and other satellites, so I imagine that ships in E:D get quite a bit of wear and tear from atomic oxygen corrosion, micrometeorites, and hard radiation (especially when fuel scooping, or hanging around really hot stars.)

I was talking oxidisation externally, I expect in any pressurised environment there will be corrosion, what with the Oxygen atmosphere and the condensation that must accumulate on the inner skin.

Any news on the Long Super cruise exits and the other bugs that were reported in the 1.4 patch?

Think you won't get an answer...
I hope every single day for a good patch like in earlier days but FD.... it's simply sad...

Between the supercruise fps bugs and interdiction this game has become an unplayable mess for a lot of us. How the hell did this patch make it pass the quality control department? Does FDEV honestly test these things before they release them in the wild? I'm a software engineer and there is no chance this patch would have seen day light in the shape that its in. Why have there not been more patches to address the ridicules issues that make this great game look like and feel like crap now?

Because Xbox parity. No more hotfixes for PC until Microsoft okays the patch... who refused to believe the development would slow down after xbox release?

If this is true.....FD has lost a lot of my respect.

This is basically half true. They can deploy hotfixes for things which don't require any server side change. For example, if there is a graphical problem which is specific to only the PC client, and doesn't change any interaction with the server or networking code, they could do a PC only fix for that.

However if it requires a server change that will impact on the Xbox, they have to go through Microsoft QA.

Of course, they may be deliberately choosing to sync all updates, unless the issue is so game breaking that they cannot wait. Whether an issue is truly game breaking will be a matter of opinion in some cases, or may only affect a small number of users.

Someone on a thread said (after we pushed that problem into the light on this thread) that it was fixed. I haven't done exhaustive experiments, but I have done some, and Solo was working for me (until I changed to open to drop some cargo at Kaushpoos). I'll switch back to mostly Solo today and see if it happens for me.

It must be more to do with certain people. I've been flying around civilized space, took part in a CG, and gone on two exploration missions since 1.4 hit. Apart from the hiccups for the first week or two, i've had no issues with long supercruise jumps.

One wonders what is causing it for some people and not others.
