Patch Notes Update 1.4.01 update

Just one small question. In my last flights, lets say 3 attempts this week , attempts to hunt some feds couriers and get some merits failed , failed on a impossible bad way. I have no idea what happen but could not interdict single NPC. Tried 20 or more times, all failed. Before never had problems, interdicting was walk in park, escaping interdiction walk in park, now everything of those is impossible mission . Changes on ship none. Still A3 interdictor and everything else is same. And this happen after 4.0 update. Before 4.0 had no problems ever. Does this small update and small fix to interdiction have anything with above?

The patch itself is only a minor one for a few reasons. The first is because of the stress test we've found and fixed a lot of potential issues early. We're also focusing on Horizons at the moment and finally because we’re focusing on improving the process in which we update these bugs. Allowing for more detailed investigation to avoid fixes which then cause knock on bugs.

Hey Zac,

would be nice to give us feedback what´s about further patches... this game still has a lot of bugs!

Solution for the 1,ooo,ooo+ missions...
ANY of these missions over 1 million, have a unique flag.
if you have any missions with a unique flag, you cannot GET a unique mission.
so simple.. one at a time folks...
problem solved, yet still initiated, and nerfed, since they can only DO one at a time.

Please no...

The reason why we keep having so many of these issue is because of "contrived unrealistic mechanics," so the last thing we need to do is to balance yet another if-but-when ontop of a load of contrived mechanics.

Consider the missions we're talking about here. An example of one shown to me, transporting 3T of Hydrogen 450ly for millions of credits. Now, how is this in anyway a logical mission? It can be sourced within a dozen light years of the destination for a minute fraction of the reward being offered for the mission? So why would anyone pay for it to be shipped 450ly within say 8 hours?

So the problem with (many of) these missions, and indeed so many aspects of ED, are they are just based on illogical, self contained mini-game mechanics. Once upon a time FD was suggesting the galaxy would be a living breathing economy, but alas we're a universe away from that.

If the missions given had some logic applied to them for the reason for their huge rewards, I cannot help but feel this would solve half the problems being faced. eg: A missions to deliver an important data package. This immediately explains why it needs to cover 450ly for example. And if the time contraint was tight (eg: 1hr) this would explain the high reward (millions). And this would then prevent people farming numerous of them, as they would have an hour or two to achieve the missions instead of half a day to farm and fullfil a dozen of them.

Too much of ED is simply disjointed, illogical mini-games bolted togethor. They need to be made more realistic/logical. This will solve many inherent problems! One day for example, I pray we get a logical reason/mechanic put in for endless Wanteds turning up to RES to simply commit suicide. It makes no sense at all, yet we all just accept it.

The smuggling missions are no longer using the "pirating" icon and they do not warn you about the illegal goods.
I accidentally took such a mission because it looked like a regular transport mission (apart the higher payment).
(No, I do not read their descriptions, just check the destination and the payment).

I remember thinking last night at the HAZ RES, "What miner in their right mind would come to a site where law enforcement contact was jammed? And if there's no miners, why are pirates the here?" I started along that line of thought after noticing that there was only one miner out of a dozen contacts, and it was a type-9 with two Cobra MK III wingmen bodyguards.

It looks like tweening - the NPCs are instantiated at your coordinates, then their intended coordinates are set on the next update and the game tweens them from one to the other. Normally the difference should be so small that you shouldn't notice tweening occurring.

NPCs can be owned and controlled by any player in your p2p session, and this can cause them to move jerkily.

Tweening, hmm, never heard that one before, so thanks again. :)

That could indeed explain it, I would be interested in learning more about it, not just for the NPC thing, but also because since 1.4 I have had great difficulty with interdictions, and believe that may also be due to very small (but significant in an SC instance) latency or lag in the network connection, so if you have any more info on that I would be most grateful.

I generally play in Mobius, and very rarely see other players, but the behavior that I've tried to explain occurs regardless of whether there is another CMDR in the instance.

Improved interdictions in what way might I ask? I had no problem with interdictions before but now it is literally IMPOSSIBLE for me to escape. Seriously, I'm right on the escape vector the entire time and I still get pulled out of supercruise. On top of that the AI NEVER. . MISS. I'm blown up before I can even turn around to defend myself. Try to flee? NOPE NOT TODAY MY FSD HAS TO COOL DOWN FOR THE NEXT 2 MINUTES! Is this a joke? Do you have any idea how many times I've had to rebuy my ship today alone? 3 times. 3 ING times and It's not even 11:30 am. I can't get anywhere in this game because every time I complete a mission, that is if I even get to complete a mission before I'm obliterated, I spend everything I've earned on buying my ship back. Not to mention I've had to abandon dozens of missions because my cargo gets destroyed which is completely reasonable until it starts happening this often. Oh also, I got a 12,800 Cr fine in a system I had never been to. I'm seriously about to just uninstall ED because I dump hours into this game and effectively accomplish absolutely nothing.

10 Cr repair still not repaired? Must be a tough bug :D

As I mentioned before, the 10 cr's are for repairing the paint job. Many people had requested that the paint NOT be repaired when using repair all because they wanted to see their ship show the effects of wear and tear over time. So (IMO) not a bug.

I don't do mining so I'm not sure what bugs may or may not exist in those regards and I've grown accustomed to the interdicting so the only real issue I'm seeing at this point is the black "mission target" text. That should be an easy fix and have no idea why they haven't sorted it yet. If you're a new player and don't know to look for it combat missions would have to be extremely frustrating right now because you can't see that text at all unless you REALLY look for it. I have to put my face 6 inches from the screen to see it.

Update failed for the file ''D:\Elite Dangerous\Products\FORC-FDEV D-XXXX\Win32\data.ovx'' ( validation error )

^ that , gents... What I endure every patch... since 1.4, game is unplayable
and yes, I tried solutions like :
- uninstall, reinstall
- uninstall, clear history browser, cookies everything etc, reinstall
- uninstall, clear every remnant file in appdata, hdd, reinstall
- Format the pc...
- install, see same error, download the Data.ovx and Root.ovl files manually from support site, nope...

its like ED doesnt want me to play.
well... Guess ill quit and go play something else ?
should I sell my copy ? It has a 'Conda with 50mil upgrades + full beam turrets on it, a Trade Python with 3D shield for medium platform trade runs and a full A/D'd 33ly Diamondback explorer... and I cant play the game so... they just rest in their hangars...

Ok, don't bother fighting the interdiction, throttle to stop and accept the interdiction. Once the other ship has spawned, four pips to the engine, start running. You will find the FSD has already cooled down because you submitted, you can be up and running within 15 seconds again

I had that error on release. Disable virus/malware checker(s), delete those two files manually and validate.

Don't mean to insult you, just didn't see that listed as one of your solutions.

Yeah no worries mate...
Did that as well, also after format, with nothing else but win updates ( no anti virus-malware etc ) it did the same thing as well... I really have no idea why...

I haven't been interdicted much since the patch but that's funny because, yesterday, I was able to evade an interdiction from a dangerous Eagle while flying my Anaconda. I'm master. Never happened before after 1.4 and before the 1.4.01 patch. I thought evading was a little easier but I could be wrong. Interdicting, for me, is still a struggle.

[snip]
I was able to evade an interdiction from a dangerous Eagle while flying my Anaconda. I'm master.

And that's the strongest indication that it's not really working as intended. A large ship should have a harder time escaping from an interdiction by a smaller ship according to FD. The fact that the Eagle was a pretty high ranking one only highlights this.

If the system were reliable and at least relatively predictable / reproducible then that would be something, but it seems for those having trouble with it, it is not.
