When you logon to the forums while waiting for an update that has obviously taken a bit longer than expected to implement and start chatting rubbish

I think it is because generally once you do docking for any amount of time after knowing how to maneuver your ship, it is no longer tedious, repetitive, or difficult. The computer saves you no effort, costs you a slot, AND takes control out of your hands for what potentially could cost you millions if you crater.
No gain, for a few cons doesn't sound good in my book. I played for roughly an hour before docking became easy, after that its literally something you hardly think about....
Others may need the computer because they simply cannot get it though, some have skills in areas i don't in this game.. to each his own.
Noooo send them some biscuits and coffee quick, they need all the help they can get.....
