10,000 LY's out, what do you use an SRV for?

SRV is very important, as it means I can collect vanadium which is needed to refill AFMU. I take an SRV everywhere, and recently with about 5kly to go before getting back to the bubble I destroyed my only one and was pretty annoyed with myself.

my SRV is the lifeline for jumponium materials, i also land alot on planets of interest (topography wise), if you dont land at all or enjoy rock hopping in the scarab i can see the argument for ditching it

but its part of "exploration" for me and i wouldn't be without one.

Mainly for exploration on the planets i find "interesting".
It allows me to have a different perspective of my chosen POI's and it can bring some WOW moments and amazing landscape pictures.
Not being able to escape from my ship with an SRV would be (for me) very frustrating and exploration would feel quite boring after a while.

Simple answer: for the fun (in addition to collecting materials)

Honestly, I think FD nailed the SRV handling and feeling.

One year after Horizons' release I STILL love just racing around planet surfaces, jumping across chasms and ascending (and descending) mountains in that thing, without any specific in-game monetary or measurable value attached to the activity! :)

I prefer the "Macedonica Principle". I too now have a mining laser on my brand new Anaconda, and my Asp will be retrofitted next time I jump back in.

I am clearly missing something here
Can I ask someone to explain why I now need a mining laser, please? I haven't used one for almost 2 years!!

Haven't heard of the epic rescue of CMDR Macedonica by CMDR Chiggy Vonrictofen? Here is the whole thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/308075-End-of-the-Road

It even made the news, in a recent Eurogamer article, if you want the condensed story: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...e-dangerous-rescue-on-the-edge-of-known-space

Quintessence about mining lasers: you can mine asteroids in belts for materials, not just ore, with the chance to get jumponium stuff like Germanium that otherwise is just available on planet surfaces. Therefore mining lasers seem to be a very good investment for explorers for situations where they run out of jumponium materials and are trapped in a system they reached with their last boosted jump that they can't leave again without another boosted jump.

... we need lightweight engineering for mining lasers! maybe we can get an explorers CG for that?

Sorry
Yes, I do read the 'rescue' blogs, but didn't make the connection. I must get a mining laser and give it a try - maybe I could be a good Samaritan one day!:)

I like the srv for selfie's

Whoops, sorry wrong one
OV3a2tm.png

Or trying to locate geysers, magma, or fungus. Have driven the srv thousands, and thousands of km, haven't located a single one of those yet...
