10 min Summary on CQC (and a look at the Condor) - The things Frontier have told us...

I admire your optimism Mr Ant, - I took your advice and watched the twitch stream.. what I got out of it was that its another team deathmatch/cap the flag thing. Which is not my cup of tea at all (it used to be). Don't get me wrong, I like a bit of PVP and play DOTA2 and HotS when not playing Elite; but the whole FPS 'COD' stuff lost its appeal a long, long, long time ago.

I'll have to wait and see how it works but I'm a little concerned about the lack of gimbals. This could in effect give a huge advantage to players who are using a HOTAS.

You can use a Hotas on an XBOX?

Interesting : Close Quarter Combat breaks lock when you loose line of sight - something I would love to hit the main game.

Only real criticism of the video is the obsessive use of the acronym CQC - doesn't roll off the tongue and is quite harsh. Personally I prefer "close combat" (drop the Q for elegance ;) ) I also guess that if that's my only complaint of your vid, which is a real minor thing, then it's a thumbs up from me for your effort - thank you for sharing.

From what i have seen you can keep this arcady xbone junk,This is what happens when you deal with Satan(MS)They make you put stuff in for kids,Why would anybody get upset Because this is Xbone first,I hope console players dont think this how the main game will be or they will be in for a rude awakening. If CQC is true reprsentation how most console games are then i fear ED is aiming its self at the wrong market Not optimistic about this at all

its where the moneyz is

why this obsession to link an extra game to the main game? its seperated, play it or not but to connect this to your decision not to play the main game anymore is just plain silly.

Because it's important that a game knows what it is.

Is Elite Dangerous a space simulator? A board game? An arena shooter? Some are asking for the ability to walk around - is it an FPS?

The concern is that the game isn't fully developed in any of these categories; it makes a stab at each of them.

I certainly wasn't expecting Elite 3 Arena.

That pattern certainly is starting to emerge isn't it. It's quite possible that Elite will end up being a jack-of-all-trades. Thing is - if we give Frontier enough time to flesh things out - I really don't see why that can't be a successful formula.

Nice post and thank you for your time Granite.

It is clear to understand why this is a separate mode, it would be great to see this incorporated into the main game on PC/Mac. If there were identical CQC areas dotted around the Galaxy (to save on travelling huge distances mainly). You know.....immersion and all that.

Thanks. :) I hope some elements of this at least will be incorporated into the main game. Some of those stations could perhaps be used as bases for ring systems, or those hidden pirate bases we saw so much concept art on. It's also possible that CQC is a trial run for testing what sort of things work and what doesn't work. It could potentially be a great way of testing new gameplay dynamics without breaking the main game.

I'm curious to see if Frontier will release any further game modes.

Also very curious if those game modes could be used as test beds to introduce stuff that is proven to work, into the main game.

No need to blame CQC on "kids". My son's appraisal of ED, after watching me spend a little time bounty hunting and a lot of time exploring:

"There's too much combat, otherwise I'd want a copy."

I'm not even convinced Microsoft is to blame. I think Frontier has become rudderless.

If the ships and modules handle differently then this whole thing is a waste of time. I will never participate if I have to change the way I fly, what's the point of this mode if you change the ships and modules? How does this tie into the main game AT ALL. Jesus what the heck is wrong with the devs?

so ships handle different and modules work differently and you can launch it out of elite.
I dont recall anything like this being promised back in dev diary days.
i do remember things like
1 sneaking onboard other players ships
2 watching cargo float into space from inside damaged ship
3 "i bring friends"
4 planet side hunting
5 players effecting the background simulator
and so on

I'm hoping ships will handle different in all sorts of situations.

When we get into planets with atmospheres, it'd be great if the ships handle differently there as well.
