1070 to 1080 upgrade, worth it? wait for TI?

So I was planning on getting the 1080 last year but after buying the CV1 funds were low, so I've got a 1070.

Was just enough of an upgrade from my 970, but now if I sell the 1070 I can afford the 1080.

Question is, will I really notice much of a difference? anyone else compared the two in ED VR?

Anyone not happy with their 1080 in ED VR?

I hear the 1080 Ti will appear sometime during the next 6 months, but really, a new card in the middle of summer..
it's more of a winter thing for me!

on second thoughts, it will probably rain all summer as usual...

Any thoughts appreciated!

tbh I would keep the 1070. Why? I have upgraded from a 980 to a 1080 and running still on the same SS settings. The difference is that ASW does not kick in as soon as on the 980.

1070 and 1080 are not that far apart. You would not gain that much of a performance boost in VR.

^ What he said. It really wouldn't be worth it. It's a fight to not have ASW kicking on a 1080, the difference in performance just isn't big enough to justify the price difference. I almost regret getting a 1080 instead of a 1070. Even after ages faffing about to get 90fps nearly all the time, you can land at a some unusual startport and bam, 45FPS or a station with more traffic than normal and bam 45FPS.

Wait for a 2080 Ti would be my advice.

wow, thanks for the insight, I didn't realise ASW was still an issue on a 1080,
I'm running my 1070 on VR medium with the in game HMD SS on 1.5, anything lower and it's just too mushy,
it does get a bit glitchy in busy stations/RES sites but it doesn't stutter like it used to before ASW came along.
Those darn god rays bug me more than the ASW!

Yep, it's still open what cards there will be released. Many different rumors going on. I would wait for GDC 2017 event which is at March. I think that's when NVIDIA is going to release something.

Awesome! that line up looks sweet! ( if it's true! )

I don't consider the jump from a 980ti to a 1080 as worth it, cause honestly not even the titan x would give me the performance I would expect in VR for the price.

So I'm enjoying what I got and waiting for next gen, at least.

Nice one all, thanks for the input!

First world problems eh!?

I'll probably just stick with the 1070, doesn't seem worth changing it at the moment,.. ( he says whilst opening eBay )

Hanging on my 980 until next gen GPU. Besides ED, I play a lot of games and dual 980 on a Asus rog swift, still rocks.

Dual 980? as in SLI? I'm right in thinking SLI is a total no-go for VR though right?

I tried an AMD Pro Duo which is a dual gpu 16 TFLOPs beast of card, supposedly built for VR, but had to disable one of the GPU's to get it working!

Titan XP must be the best possible card for this game, right? too much money though, with all this new tech just around the corner....

I play ED with Sli disabled, the rest of the games with it enabled
