135M Cr and bored

I need help

I have about 135 Million Credits and I want the best advice for making a great combat ship, can someone help me with this as I don't have much experience with making combat builds.

Help would be much appreciated <3

Get ten times more and buy a cutter.

If seriously, Python, FAS, Chieftain and FDL do fit the bill, if you stick with bi-weaves and lightweight hulls.
I can't fly FDL for crap, cause of her stupid cockpit design for one-eyed people. So I cannot give any advice for that.

Or just buy a full-decked Vulture for like 30 mil. Best cost-efficiency of all combat ships imo.

If you dont have much experience with combat, buy a Viper mk3. Then fly a lot of hi-res. Do that for a bunch of sessions, and only then upgrade to an expensive ship.

An A-rated 3 million credit Viper (plus rebuys) is a good place to start going to Low/High REZ sites. It won't take out every ship but you'll have System Authority ships helping. Also great for getting a Pilot's combat skills up and running.

Or buy a Diamondback Scout and keep it, no need for a higher end “combat ship”, not much more fun to be had.

This may sound strange, but Viper and DBS ar on the opposite side of the combat spectrum.
One is a jouster the other a brawler. Pick your flavor.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Yup, Viper or Vulture are good places to start with that amount of cash.

In my opinion the Viper isn’t a good starter ship for combat.
The not so good pitch rate makes it a ship that requires some skill to use, but in the hands of a skilled pilot it sings.

Buy Fer de Lance

light weight everything with engineers

fit multi cannons to all hard points, 3 x overcharge 2 x efficient with engineers

buy prismatic shields, reinforce with engineers

fit lots of shield boosters, and 1 x chaff, then engineer them to your liking

ignore ppl saying viper/vulture/chieftan. The Fer de Lance outclasses them all

then win

Vulture is a solid albeit a little boring choice. Vipers also are good, but as others said, perhaps not the perfect choice. If you have access to it, i would instead propagate the Imperial Courier. It's pure fun to fly. It might not pack the punch of the Vulture, but it's a very enjoyable experience. And if you loose it (and as beginner you will loose a ship here and there), it's very inexpencive to replace, too.

Buy a Chieftain.

Shoot stuff with it.

A lot. [up]

^This - Mine costs around 74 mill, plenty of change the get yourself a Viper III & IV. My Corvette costs 601 mill, great ship but I rarely use it, sleep inducing unless you want a quick kill for an assassination. Nearly 4 years in a Viper and I still find it fun, especially in open play, the rebuy is peanuts.

Yup, I third that as well...

Imperial courier. Little fast tanky beast of a ship with insanely strong shields for its size.

The vulture is a good one too but you'll probably get blown up a fair bit.

I'd agree that the Chieftain in its price range is unmatched. Definitely worth the money and with careful Engineering (Shield Strength & Resistances) an extremely potent Combat Ship.

It's the only Medium Combat Ship I've ever seen to turn around a clearly losing tide of War in a High Intensity Conflict Zone and achieve & maintain total spectrum domination 10 Minutes later.
Such luxury was previously reserved for Heavy-Duty Battleships like the Corvette or when deploying Wings.
Just don't try to tank PAs in it and you should do just fine.

Go for a Vulture. A fixed laser and a gimballed multicannon, Bi-weave shields or a normal shield with a SCB.

Most basic start, not too effective but gets the job done.

I'd say Courier or Vulture, maybe Chieftain, with that budget.

edit: My Chieftain comes in at ~122 mil, so that would be cutting it uncomfortably close.
My FDL is at over 200 mil.
