Hi Folks,
After reading a lot about mining and seeing Always the same questions (How much can I make, where to go ect) I have decided to share experience for those interrested in mining.
I know there are a lot of guides out there, and I wanted to make one with step by step how to…
Target : Have fun while mining, and yelding a comfortable 10-15M per hour income. Using latest game version with Horizons !
A mining session with my setup and operating procedures will take you 1H20 to 2H - station to station -
Pre-requisite :
-Basic ED knowledge
-Basic Mining understanding (plenty of guides out there)
-95M crédits (75M as a minimum to start with the Python and upgrade later)
yes, it is possible to start with less money, the dynamic will be slightly different ! (consider 20M if you want to start with a smaller ship, I started trading with T6 then T7 up to 30M cash, and started mining with the T7. After upgrade to A modules and up to 55M cash, sold it for the Python whitch was then A rated).
The Python :
Here is the setup that I use for my mining Python :
https://s.orbis.zone/1b_k
As you can see, 95M is enough for the whole setup and 2 rebuys.
You will understand the setup in more details on the "mining operation part" but here are some insight on the design:
Refinery
-The 2A refinery comes with 6 Bins and only use the type 2 internal - we won't mine more than 6 different type of ores anyway
Limpets
-The 5A prospector controller is a must !! It comes with 4 limpet support, best range and generates much more chunks - Only go with A rated
-With 5A and 3A Collector controllers you can have 5 limpets working at a time (which is quite low, but I will explain the reasons for this choice)
Weapons
- 3 medium mining lasers use slightly too much power for the distributor but that wont be a problem at all
- type 3 lasers on turrets are perfect as a deterent against almost any NPC small/medium ship, Don't expect anything Glorious, but these come in Handy in case of interdiction or interception
Shield
- The shied is very weak but his sole purpose is to protect hull from accidental collision, not to willingly enter into any combat !!
Mining Operations ...(Here is where the Fun begins…)
Lets Get Started :
The base of operation will be the famous Delkar system - Solo mode
Pros: Stations pay good money for the Ores - The pristine asteroid field is quite satisfactory - no pirates if not in REZ (except the initial scan of course)
Cons: Few minutes lost to transit station/mining site
You are docked at the station, and you want to Fill up your 208T of cargo with limpets (yes, the whole cargo hold has to be filled)
Get out, and supercruise yourself to Delkar 7, inner ring (I get the emergency stop and hull damage, but saves lot of time) - wait for the pirate scan (it should not attack so wait for him to leave) and get yourself started …
Basic Rule
- You want your Hold/Refinery to contain only the Following (choose to ignore all the other ones ) : Painite ; Platinum ; Osmium ; Samarium ; Palladium (the 6th is left to you)
step by step
As soon as you get in range of the field, and even if the NPC pirate is not done with scanning, you want to fire your 4 prospectors to the first Roids in sight !!
your prospector range is 9km with 200m/s, shoot accordingly.
I set 4 Pips to the weapons, 1 on systems and 1 on Engines as soon as I get 3km away from my first Roid, with cargo hatch down speed is still in the 90m/s range.
Now, you will only stop at the roids with Painite or Platinum in it , only, only !!!(Painite : any %; Platinum : I targer for more than 12% ones for 1H20 Sessions, any amount for 2H).
As you have to also fire your collector limpets you will find your cargo freed by 9 of them with a nice 199/208.
Having 5 collectors only seems to be a bit low, but as soon as you deplete a Roid (20sec) you will have to fire new prospectors and by the time your collectors are done you are ready to go to … wait for it… Painite or Platnium.Don't waste any time and cargo capacity on any other Ores at that time !!!
You will travel in the Roid field for about an hour and by the time you get down to 20 Limpets left your cargo should contain roughly :
40 Painite
50 Platinium
10-20 units of the others
20 Limpets
30-40 Free slots
From that moment
you should add to your harvesting any Roid containing more that 15% of the other Ores you collect. You should still be able to find Painite or Platinum but you also want to max out your cargo capacity. In the case you are very Lucky and you exceed your cargo capacity just dump some palladium/gold/whatever and pick Painite or Platinum instead.
My last trip to Delkar 7 ended up with the Following :
52 Painite - 20,454,304 Cr
62 Platinum - 3,371,932 Cr
36 Osmium - 1,296,612 Cr
32 Samarium - 630,496 Cr
10 Gold - 108,130 Cr
11 Palladium - 147,048 Cr
Time : 1H47 min
Total : 26,008,522 Cr
Few Tips :
-Station will not buy you more than 60 Painite, and Platinum is quite hard to find
-It is Possible to slightly increase the revenue by targeting Osmium and Samarium only when filling up the cargo
-You will most likely load the less valuable Ores while targeting Pain and Plat, I have not yet tried to limit to 4 Materials (removing Gold and Palladium), I will try on my next trip to Delkar 7 (21 tons of these could be replaced by only 4T of Platinum).
- Painite is where the money's at !! if you chunk 40T of painite very fast, consider to go back straight to station and start a new run, it yields more Cr, I just wanted to make a full cargo load for the topic !
Don't hesitate to comment if you appreciated the guide or not !
