2.1 beta feedback - warning for explorers....

Is this the bit where I politely remind you, you got your sums wrong last time and we collected twice what you needed? ;)

That's assuming that Jaques actually makes it to BP. (I'm sure something else is going to happen - I'll probably be disappointed though)

If I were the story writer, yes, I'd arrange an accident.

It was a stupid idea, but there is no backtracking now that the announcement has made. So I guess something terrible will happen. :)

Geeze...that would mean I'd have to collect a whole bunch of mats again! I think I'll take my chances at Kano... ;)

Frawd

If you might need mats, I suggest you collect them now and not later. 2.1 will make you long for the easy days of mat farming in 2.0. These are the golden days: when the mats actually exist.

Yeah but I have to think that it is bugged now in 2.1 beta and that they will fix it before live, right? I mean it's not a trivial thing to collect the mats NOW in 2.0, I can't imagine they would actually make it worse?

FDev's track record on fixing defects found in Beta is rather spotty.

This problem does not break the Shootin'. The client does not crash. Many professions could make use of synthesis, but most people in The Bubble will be focused on Engineers. So unless the fix is very simple I very much doubt it will be fixed before 2.1 goes live.

The next nail in the coffin is that FDev has not publicly recognized either the change in mat distribution or the spawning problems, so it is not certain that either is officially a bug.

If they are bugs then if we are very lucky we will see them fixed in a minor patch weeks down the road. BUT, if they are complex to fix then we shouldn't expect a fix until 2.2.

Finally, if the distribution change of materials is a bug, but 2.1 goes live with that bug, it may never get fixed. Fixing it after 2.1 goes live will change the material distributions back for planets surveyed in 2.0, but likely "break" the material distributions for planets surveyed in 2.1. Which will be a mess. So if that's a bug and it goes live, then maybe the best we can hope for is an official "Oopsie! Sorry 'bout that!".

This particular panic pops up for nearly every update (both major and minor), and usually ends up being quite a bit overblown. In this case there are plenty of people popping up in that thread to say they aren't seeing a significant increase in NPC aggression, just that if you do fight NPCs they're a little bit tougher. I wouldn't panic about that yet.

I would recommend panicking about Synthesis Materials. Namely: if you are currently located in an area that you cannot return from without jumponium then you should at least farm enough jumponium for your return trip before 2.1 goes live. The 3-2-1 rule is probably gone (there are five tiers instead of four, and materials have moved, so at the very least the rule has changed). Further it is extremely punishing to get anything better than Common mats right now (Metallic Meteorites are now a great resource for Common mats, but that's about as good as it gets). There's some evidence that mat distribution has changed entirely, so you can't rely on planets you have surveyed before even if you have the insane levels of tenacity that it must now take to get tier 4 & 5 mats.

Yep... This is of great concern... https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=247448&p=3857020#post3857020

While I do not expect the current Beta mechanic to remain "as is" (this is Beta after all..."No Holds Barred" is the rule, not the exception), there seems to be little doubt about some change occurring.
...
Whether that invalidates all the previous surveys of material and their availability or not, remains to be seen.
That being said... Those who want to prepare are advised to find the Rare and Very Rare materials on the revised 5 level list... PRIOR to 2.1 Dropping.

I'm hoping for more of an incident - rather than accident - something unfortunate rather than terrible...

"Look at all that tasty data!!!"

Lol, nothing worse than data pirates.

The little Hauler now looks a tempting option to do (smuggling?) missions and also as a cheap exploration vessel. :)

The hauler is a fun little ship. I use it instead of a sidewinder to do shuttle runs (to consolidate my ship locations). I just wish it had another hardpoint.
