Engineers 2.1 is begging me to take a break

I'm already starting to leave ED. haven't played much since the first 2 days of 2.1 and i feel like i wasted 49$ by paying for season 2.

The moment NMS hits the market ill probably uninstall elite for good, not even my friends are playing elite anymore :S

Many will leave and many will stay. But the moment FD wallet gets hit for real, they will either fix their mess or kill the game.

I for one, not sure if i care if this game dies or lives anymore even though i used to love ED :(

+1 OP Great post

I'm particularly intrigued by the fact that many argue that you just play like you used to in 2.0 and you'll get what you need over time to do some modding with the Engineers.

Good luck with that idea. There's no doubt that if you don't go kill a few T-9's you won't make much progress as even materials labeled common can only be found if you specifically go looking for them and know where to look. Like Ant says, the game is always at odds with itself and FD seems to delight in creating elaborate frustration mechanisms that can only yield success after HOURS of play.

I'm pretty much enjoying 2.1 now that I've adapted a bit, but it is slow progress that many players will just not want to endure.

The lack of storage combined with the horrendous method of swapping modules on ships is nothing but shear madness. I lost 3 upgraded modules just trying to put them on another ship - no idea what happened - they just went poof! No way to get them back and it was only minutes between sell and re-buy on the receiving ship.

Many say things like, "there wasn't time" to add these features into 2.1. I say it's a matter of rational priorities that should have been worked on BEFORE Engineers was introduced. FD keeps overlooking basic elements that we've been begging for since Alpha and keeps pushing ahead with new stuff that just makes the absence of the basic mechanics all the more irritating.

We need ways to transfer modules between ships that are convenient and DEPENDABLE.

We need ship or CMDR transport mechanisms that work.

We need the ability to buy/sell and use shipyard menus remotely.

The lack of these features just introduce time-waters that do NOTHING to make ED more interesting or fun nor does it do anything needed for game balance.

Same with route design and save for Galaxy Map. Bookmarks finally after 2 years - now how about manual routing and saving.

There's a lot of good in 2.1, but there are still so many things that have been waiting for way way too long that would not have taken 6 months to get done.

Come on FD. Pull it together before there's a mass exodus.

Here is an exchange on the development cycle at Frontier from this thread, “Time to Vote…” https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=261286, that speaks to your point.

Being in the development industry I'm well aware of teething issues after every major update, so I am patient that these changes/bugs will be rolled out in due course.
I'm also aware that things we, as a company, think are a good idea but turn out to be a crowd hater and this happens across the industry, so I will be patient that they will be adjusted to bring them in line with customer expectations.
Engineers hasn't impacted my game in the slightest (I will get the mats I need as I play the game, I'm not in a rush) and the AI is tougher, but that's a good thing and I enjoy a challenge. Combat is fun now.

So, until the game is utterly unplayable, I will continue to play it.

These points are well taken, and I too will continue to play and hope matters get ironed out.

I am worried though. Frontier looks to be falling into a common trap amongst software engineers -- building in features because they think they are cool instead of those that meet a customer's needs or improves the core product. So in our case, Frontier would have been better served by doing the AI right, adding in materials along with storage and related player economy, and only then think about the Engineers. Frontier billed Elite as a cosmos not a combat simulator with stuff on the side. Improvements to the long term positive experience of pilots (e.g. storage) must be part of the core product strategy.

I already contributed to Star Citizen. I Will go back to playing starpoint gemini 2 for now and switch to Star Citizen towards the end of the year. Right now I feel like the $45 I spent on season 2 was a waste of money. I have 990 million worth of assets in Elite and Most of the content that I am interested in is gated behind seemingly insurmountable walls.

Pretty much the same boat backed SC, currently playing Witcher 3 Blood and Wine.
Waiting for StarCitizen (maybe 2017) and NMS(August 9)

You should try Rebel Galaxy its a fun game very addicting :)

Elite only leaves me feeling i'm wasting time every single time now :(

I am seriously considering getting Star Citizen and for sure No Man Sky. Every time I start elite dangerous and after precious hours waisted on grinding I loss more and more love for this game. I seriously starting to regret how much money I have spent for this game. Thank god I did not drop almost 1k to get VR set up.

Now I completely respect what you have to say, You being a fellow VR player I think you will have an particular understanding for my pain on the matter. I pretty much use my DK2 exclusively for ED, as it has been the best gaming experience along with project cars. The changes made now have totally changed the way I used to play and I just don't find the game as enjoyable anymore. Perhaps I just need to go take that trip to beagle point or something to get some space from what I feel are constant interdictions.

In my opinion too, your idea about the engineers upgrades sounds far better than what was implemented in 2.1 and is along the lines of what I had hoped it would be. I even bet you didn't consider this idea anywhere near as long as FD considered their solution. So what happened? These engineers are just not going to get any materials from me.
What happened, I am not sure, I am guessing lack of development resources to implement that system. I am a software developer myself, and I know I would do a ton of stuff differently if product management hadn't given me some crappy deadline I had to meet. I suspect they considered the system I suggested and came to the conclusion it would take more time/resources than they had at the time and went with what they could do. I hope they will reconsider and add a better implementation soonish.

I totally don't regret getting the VR setup for this game at all, it is the most amazing experience I have ever had in a game by a huge amount. I have the matching hotas and the immersion is just incredible, and this is just on a DK2, can't wait for my CV1 to get here. Quite frequently I forget I am not actually in space and when reality interrupts my space travels it is very jarring.
