So what's happening? Instant transfer is here to stay and Sandro won't budge on the idea? We still have a month or so to really know for sure.
Pretty sad if that's the case, the galaxy will turn into a puddle and everyone will be flying a handful of ships.
I'll continue to play the game but I doubt it'll be in open.

So a solo explorers life it is for me then.

Also, please bear mind, that the community is everyone - not just you, or the person next to you, or those in this forum voicing their opinion, but on reddit, steam and other places also. It's everyone - thus it's many voices, many opinions and many-many priorities.

Unfortunately this. Everything I've seen outside of these forums has pointed to people being overwhelmingly positive about the decision. Simulations are too niche, don't keep the servers on and don't keep the money rolling in. People want PvP, and hate the balancing of the FSD ranges on their Corvettes.

And how may other space games with the same scope are there? What else are you going to play if you like the genre? NMS? Great game, but not a long term prospect. And face it, we'll be old and grey before that other big space game lives up to the quality of its GamesCom presentation. Frontier have us over a barrel. All I can say is, just ignore the BGS, as there isn't any point trusting the results now. Fly in solo as you'll never be able to trust if a player's ship should be there or not, and hope they fix the spawn system back to take security into account, rather than keep up with this level/ship scaling stuff. If they do that, you have a fair approximation of 'Elite: That Was'. :(

I would say what I truly think - but it would probably get me banned from the forums. Ho hum. Back to avoiding this thread like the all devouring plague.

We'll see what happens. Even if Sandro has said that ship transfer will be instantaneous, I don't think he counted on the community strongly arguing that this should be anything but instant. Have they cleared this major change with David Braben and how this will affect the game's future?

Give them a bit of time so they can formulate a response.

Guess I'll try and get a little more gaming in the next few months (if I can be bothered) before the genre officially switches and the scifi that was ED ends. This game will be lucky to still exist in two years.

I might do a farewell tour to the non-procedural nebulae and other "real" celestial bodies that are modelled. Well, those that aren't permit-walled.

Call me a troll if you want.
But I never said FD lied , I said they changed the vision and that this is not what made me back the game.

2.1 was , even if I was not a fan of engineers it still fit into the genral vision.
ship tranfer via magic and with a low price tag goes against everything the old elites are about , and everything that was promised.

I still love FD , and the original vision and wish I could just go back and play the early beta.

I still play the game , but I fear for the future of the game

You've been here for quite a while, so obviously I was not referring to you or the other regulars. You're perfectly entitled to disagree with FD's design decisions. I was referring to the sudden and very negative tone the thread took - calls to fire Sandro, for heaven's sake. We've seen our share of doom threads but this one feels different.

Lol. You guys are taking this game way more seriously than the devs do :D

For all `hardcores` who love when the game is torturing them: Rogue system -------------------> this way.

Well, I think this is the game YOU're looking for :)

You don't have to play it like that though do you! .. Its not like its being forced on you! Just like you dont have to do anything else in the game if you dont want to. I dont want to do mining for example so I dont.

Riiiiiiiight. Cus no one indulges in the current meta du jour do they? You don't have to play that way, but a sizable fraction will. Mining is only a small portion of the game. Travel *WAS* a najor portion.

I am both sad and furious. My favourite game has had its heart and soul ripped out by a coalition of the clueless.
Same !
Elite dangerous was the best game ever , I would argue that is was so objectively.

I ignored all the silly POIs and USSs that made no sense , because they are WIP/placeholders
I ignored all the parts of the game that are empty because they are not made yet.

But this , is not the same.
This is not content that was lost in alpha/beta , content that was canceled

This is a game having its heart and soul changed into something 100% different.

Remeber that elite is the game that made you pay to dock at a station !
So when sandro (whom I respect and he sounds like a very cool guy) says that the fee should be in name only , its a joke !
This is not elite.

This is if the next ArmA game had hitscan weapons

Your wasting your time ... Seriously ... Its all got way too emotional now for a lot of people on the thread.

Just for the record I want to be the last person to ever ask this now completely irrelevant question:

people have little imagination when it comes to understanding how Insta Ship Transfer can be Achieved...

Simply think of a Rental Car... being available in another country.. Same car, same setup same colour etc etc

for some to suggest Depth and realism has been taken out is a little short sighted..

Faction Alignment/Station ownership should play a part in the Process of having Insta-ship Transfers

Realism can be maintained if the FDevs use their god given ability to think outside the box

Nice to you to say that but sources are have more power than your words... and sources said otherwise!

I'm starting to think a few of you have worse issues than instant transfer in Elite... Please calm down. There's a point where passion turns into zealotry. No one needs to be fired and there's no reason you should ever feel sick or emotionally destroyed over a decision made in a VIDEO GAME. Disagree with the decision, talk about it, but they didn't kill your dog, you will live. At least test it out and voice concerns on the Beta forum before you jump off of a virtual bridge because of it.

Yep, fitting the smallest D rated FSD on fighters (just enough to be able to high wake to the closest star) is going to be a meta.

It already is. People just change their loadout for travel and then just change out the FSD and fuel tank for a smaller one at the destination. I don't get why people do that, it's not like you're making a meaningful difference in flight performance by shaving ten tons off your A-rated tanked-up murderboat, but they do it, and it's always quite a laugh when a popular bounty hunting system goes into lockdown and strands a bunch of 1ly FDLs who need to re-outfit their ship just to leave the system.

I honestly cannot express how much "not worth explaining" explanation offered in the Lave Radio interview puts me off -- I mean, even the folks who are for instant transfer tried to rationalize it...

I mean, up to now, I think most, if not all, aspects of the game have been given an in-world reason, no matter how "gamey" they were. Now, however, that explanation, that (semi)coherence of the world of Elite doesn't seem to matter at all. Why?

You're quite wrong, though. The universe of this game has run on handwavium for a long time - it's just that no one cares when it gives them something they want. I never heard anyone else complain about why Frontier didn't even bother to try explaining why it's apparently easier to build a new station 22kly away than it is to build one in the very heart of the bubble, but the same people who complain about realism and explanations don't have a single whit of interest in keeping things realistic outside the bubble.

I would assume that their main goal was to make it easier for casual players to gather their ships -fast- at one spot and form wings. Purely co-op thing.

What's the point of ship transfer with delay? If it's slower than going and getting the ship yourself, why would anyone bother?
