News 2.3 Dev Update

Tbh, it could be a nice update!
But i really don't like the effect of hopping through the galaxy. It will be a lot nicer to meet your mates in Station xy and change the ship there!

It doesn't fit with the teleporting in the E:D universe in my opinion. If we wanna have the best real affect this teleporting thing shouldn't be a thing, for now!

The package would be nicer if for example the story build up then. Meeting with guadians, thargs ect. A story about the research to warping people in t future.

I think the Ressource are that to do it in a way like that. Hopefully you understand my terrible gramma in english :'D

Come on, just let people play with their friends. There is no reason to add stupid timegates to this feature, absolutely none. If it messes with your immersion don't use it.

A new camera system sounds amazing!
But I'm a bit disappointed that we won't be getting AI crew members when there's a decent enough AI in the game already.

And this whole instant crew transfer bothers me a little. We should at least dock with each other before a transfer. But I get the gameplay aspect of it. The ship transfers we have today with its time penalty is a fantastic feature. :)

Erm, this is exactly how it works when you "die", you re-spawn with a ship in a station that can be hundreds of light years away...!!

Uhm, not one from the immershun squad but pretty certain you just agree to deal with omitting the journey made in your escape pod.

As regards exploit? I could surely just get two mates on board who then go off and do something else, while I RES farm? And they earn millions for doing nothing?

Oh joy, they're making money more valuable again I see... -_-

Still, nothing on the abusability of just jumping into ships mid-combat to give them extra pips. Basically he who has more willing friends online wins. *yawn*.

Instant I can get behind in this instance. But it should have been instant joining to a station at least so the ship you're joining can't nab the benefits of a mostly AFK crewmate from a pool of contacts mid fight/whatever they're up to.

I can only assume that the networking challenges of 4 players on a ship has been so ardouse that an actual reason to have 4 players on a ship seems to have been neglected. Sad really. A real missed opportunity.

What happened to different roles on multicrew ships?
Seems like we were expecting 4 people per ship each with different roles (helm, weapons, systems, navigation etc...) but what we're getting is 3 people per ship, one always helm, one always in a fighter and one that can swap between turrets and a fighter.

Seems common that the updates to ED are mainly recycled features. It was looking like 2.3 was going to introduce new game play (whatever the plan was for the 4 different roles) but instead it's not, it's adding slightly different game play that's really exactly the same as what we've been doing for years.

I do think 2.3 as proposed is a good way to do it (the drop in aspect) but I don't see it as an exciting feature that adds very much new to the game. Bit disappointed in the U-turn by FD on the roles, it's gone from a feature that I had hope for to one that I don't think I'll be able to talk many friends into trying or getting back into the game for.

Another reason to avoid open unless you are very social and have so many friends someone is always there to join up at any time.

I must admit to feeling that this multicrew thing is indeed going to prove counter to the supposed desire to attract people to play in open mode.....especially given the lack of NPC multicrew as an alternative on top of the lack of NPC wingmen. I'll give it a chance but as someone who will have little use for multicrew and already little use for Wings (as my friends don't play), all I foresee is it resulting in me playing in open less and less when in the bubble......

Open is the premier multiplayer mode, but things like this only seem to be making it less friendly, and therefore less attractive, for those who lean more towards lone wolf play which in turn will drive such players more towards solo or PG options instead. I do hope I'm wrong though......

Indeed - I thought it was supposed to be helm, fire control (ie turrets, weapons), tactical (ie shields, sensors) and engineer (repairs, power distribution). And that was already lacking a much needed science option in my opinion. Like I wrote elsewhere, we're getting half of what's needed.....and the combat focused half at that.

For players that really don't want any interaction with other players, then maybe, but then you really shouldn't be in open.

But seeing as it allows you to connect with other players even if you aren't friends with them and allows you to play in open in a reduced risk scenario, I think in some cases it will encourage open play.

If you look carefully, you can see he's just got a single button infront of him? It's got something like "Cargo Hatch" or something written on it?

Actually, the words I see there are "Searching", and "Shields Low"

Concept artwork almost never aligns with actual content. In any industry.
It's a concept, an idea. Always subject to change. :D

That picture dates back to, at least, Newsletter #104 ( around mid-Dec last year ). :)

But seriously, why post it now as a teaser only a couple of days before the Dev Update if it's completely defunct?

Dude it's concept art.

And that's one of the things I want clarification on: Is that crew station something that was planned but ultimately dropped, and for what reasons?

It's pretty clear that we are only getting 50% of the promised multicrew in 2.3. Just got to hope we get the other 50% in a later patch.

Kinda like with the engineers. We got like 7 (I think) initially but were promised 15? Not even sure if we even have all 15 yet.

The content of releases Is timeboxed to fit in to the marketing schedule. Marketing want to push 2.3 at PAX east prior to the PS4 release, so the content of 2.3 is what can be done before that hard date.

2.4 will include be whatever can be done before GamesCom.

ED? Is there any chance some attention could be given to the mission boards? Some folk I know have told me they are having a devil of a time getting decent missions to do, this has been a persistent problem. Don't get me wrong here, the dev update was a welcome one but I hope the devs will also give some love to the mission boards too during the Beta.

Stahp! My excitement is already peaking with anticipation of ME:Andromeda.

:D You and me both! Although I will wait a bit to see if there will be a "complete version" later on tho. ;)

Probably because Frontier feel there's no point wasting resources in creating teaser content, or perhaps they don't want to show anything off just yet.
Or perhaps Zac just likes it?
Who knows?

So grade 5 engineered ships, already operating at nigh on 100+% improved damaged/health, would now get raised buffed by adding NPC crew?

I assume we'd be able to train/augment these NPC crew to improve the amount they improve our improved performance?

No buffs that you wouldn't get from having a human crew. Also, you're stuck completely in "combat mode", whereas I am thinking about non-combat as well.

Where we missed out, with engineers, was in terms of depth. There is almost no way-outside of crafting-to gain rank, & rank gets you nothing except access to a new level of upgrades. It could have, & was supposed to be, so much more. With Engineer Specific missions, gaining rank by increasing rep with Super Powers & Factions they were aligned to, & access to "off the shelf" modules in outfitting.....at least that is what seemed to get promised in the lead-up to 2.1!

Hey. No additional roles, other than those outlined in the post :)

Not even someone to make the coffee? Dang!

Multicrew sounds like a great feature if you have friends, but completely useless to those who play alone. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against this feature per se, but surely there are bigger priorities than something which only benefit a fraction of the playerbase? Or do less people play alone than I think? Guess I'm going to have start being more social :)
