Patch Notes Update 2.4 The Return - Patch Notes

I know this has probably been discussed, but a forum search came up empty.
I have both Frontier ED Launcher and STEAM/Frontier ED Launcher. I have updated the former, but wonder if the Steam version will update automatically because I haven't been able to do it manually.

Steam updates automatically, and their distribution cluster is usually very fast and reliable. With recent launches, even if the ED Launcher was the first one to download, Steam was on par in the end. One thing I always do with Steam when I'm eagerly waiting for an update, though, is closing the client and starting it up again, sometimes it does not recognize updates in time :)

They sound boring.

Seriously, refusing to even allude to new content in the patch notes makes it seem like you spent months of dev time on a few basic bug fixes and nothing more.

Add to that: Thargoid story content will come over the course of the next few months. Great. Another early access, wait and see update.

I am sorry, but...there's nothing to get excited for here. You dont have to outright spoil new stuff. But refusing to even allude to it makes me wonder if you even added anything at all. Which honestly makes me wonder why I still bother...

Unless you have some insider information, all that's going on here is that you're viewing these patch notes through some seriously pessimistic-colored lenses.

Unless you like ED that is.

Seriously? This is a community that worked out where a hidden site was from recognising the constellation of stars in a single frame .. off a promo video!

Which honestly makes me wonder why I still bother...

Be glad FDev doesn't listen to me - I would require materials take up cargo space instead of being magically massless, volumeless, and indestructable (though it would be hundreds of materials per 1 ton of cargo space).

As for data scans, they make even less sense (there is no "copy-n-paste", just "cut-n-paste" of data in 3303).

I think what you really want is "Arcade Mode", whereas I want "Simulation Mode", so maybe someday FDev will give us the option to chose between the two, like the NMS update, when we start a new game.

I want simulation mode please.

What's the point? What's the point in getting upset over a thing that wasn't in the patch notes or promised at any point in time? Take a look at that list of patches and fixes. That represents a MASSIVE amount of coding and debugging and graphics design work (yes, graphics design work, they did a reworking of the outpost stations among other things) and optimization of physics layers to improve framerate. All much more important to the overall experience.

This game is a huge undertaking that involves gigabytes of files and code. And I for one am rather pleased with the focus on performance and networking issues, and on the game-breaking bugs (like the skimmers crashing on our heads at planetary stations.)

the storage is an issue since invented. not going further into it, enough threads about it at this "forum".

blablubb, over and out.

I see what you mean - I was looking forward to this update, but you have pointed out the futility of hope. All is lost.*

Greetings Commanders,

  • Added mysterious and exciting things...
  • Added mysterious locations we're not going to tell you about...
  • Added more mysterious and exciting things...
  • Added more mysterious locations we're not going to tell you about...
  • Mysterious audio for mysterious things.....
  • Added some mysterious things which get unveiled over time...
  • Added a cool mystery thing...
  • Added another cool mystery thing.....
  • If you're still reading this we're definitely not telling you about the mysterious things, you'll have to wait and find out......

* oh no - wait - actually you are just a grumblepuss :D

I wouldn't mind to have materials take cargo space, if we had a place to store it. In 2017 we can rent storage spaces for very cheap, surely 1000 years in the future that is still possible.
Same with data. In 2017 I can hold 32TB in one hand. Hell, E:D installation probably uses more space than 500 data units on the ship!

Are you guys already downloading the files? I updated the launcher but it still says 'Play' instead of 'Upgrade'. Is this how it's supposed to be or should I reinstall the launcher?

How about being patient for a couple more hours, logging in and flying over to Maia to see what the score is?

I can't see the need to be told what's in there. We know there are Thargoids in this update, we know they can be found as soon as the update's live and we know roughly where they are, so why not just go and find them? It's about time this game stopped spoon-feeding us.

Jeez, this is as bad as my wife obsessively reading about what's going to happen in Eastenders for the next week or two, then insisting on watching it anyway and complaining that it wasn't as good as she expected (for limited values of "good", obviously).

Hahaha I got to the part where you suggested they were going to log in.

Thanks for the chuckle.

Only trolls are downloading on PC - apparently they have screenshots (well, steam is probably updating). Or I'm being left out ....

Relax, files are not yet available.

BUT I CAN'T !!!

In fact usually the servers come back first, then everyone tries to log in and it says the client is too old ... then we get the client. Just to set expectations :)

I'm on PC and downloaded the entire game since around 2 hours ago, initially using the launcher Steam brought along. That one recognized a new launcher was required (remember having read so somewhere here) and installed that one. It downloaded everything alright it seems. Now I have 2.4 (no 32 bit versions anymore) but can't login yet as the servers are down.

And BINGO second pair of glasses successfully bought!
