There are lots of Player Factions in the game already.
So many Mysterious things™ in the patch notes, wow.
Knowing how badly Frontier likes to brag and overhype every single new feature for hours and hours on end in their livestream this can only mean 2 things:
-Either it'll be really mysterious and good
-It'll be a very, very barebones update
I guess there's only one way to find out

No they're not. Factions are just on forums and in game we have only custom names for NPC factions. Players doesn't belong to any faction, just those in Power Play. Did you play any mmo game? If yes, then you should know how it should look like...
