it is simply not true. i have zero problems flying unmodified cobra mkIII or DBS ... or cutter. you have to adapt your outfitting a little, and you have to run sometimes. but upgrades aren't mandatory at all to play the game. if i look at the upgrades i have done till now (fsd range increase... lightweight mounts for my courier... low power shields) none of them "help" with the new AI.

some of them make unusal ships much better - i have a L3 thruster modification on a DBE, making it a ship as fast as an AspE. more of "quality of life"-upgrades.

and a fact, everybody is flying unmodified ships to get the stuff to make the modifications. it tells me that unmodified ships are valid at all.

I found one last night in a USS. It was coming from a wreck. Being emitted by a personal data point or something actually attached to the inside of the wreck. Couldn't collect anything just came up in the scan.

I was in Alliance space near Lave. I think it's just a rare spawn.
