Horizons 2 into 1.

So, having to use a Size 3 internal slot for a size 1 component. I imagine this may have been discussed before but, could there not be a compromise created. For example, dual slots? A size 3 slot could, say, house 2 x size 1 slot components and, as a side effect, additional heat generated requiring more thermal management? Perhaps this 'multi-slot' could be limited to things that we all like to use, like the docking computer, Basic discovery scanner?

Just my thoughts. :)

Yes, it has... Wouldn't hold my breath on if I were you. When Horizons came out they "magically" found a slot for the landing computer which suddenly appeared where none existed. It has been suggested that that the discovery scanner and the detailed surface scanner could be combined in to a larger, 4 ton unit that costs 4 million and pulls more power and fits into a size 2 slot.

This would give ships like the Diamond Backs renewed purpose that was lost when the SRV was introduced and its hanger took up a precious slot. Exploring without a SRV, advanced discovery scanner and detailed surface scanner is a bit point less. The Scout went from a possible exploration ship to forget about it and the Explorer isn't much better.

Yes it's been discussed several times frontier have never commented on or even acknowledged the idea. but yes good idea.

I KNOW that I have asked for a 'server rack' unit that would allow for us to have several electronic devices mounted into one internal slot (the rack would have equipment in its' own right, so an 8 tonne rack would only support 6 devices). I don't think FDev want this.

Still an excellent idea!
Hope we can bring this piece of common sense into the game. [yesnod]

This should absolutely be implemented ASAP!

If FD can magically create the planetary approach suite slot, then a way to combine size-1 modules into a larger slot is an total no-brainer.

I notice in the outfitting screen that you can see how much of your module is occupied (there are pips below the module size) so perhaps Frontier do intend to introduce a mechanism for incorporating a number of smaller sized modules into one larger one?

I think this would be a fantastic addition as it would make several ships viable again as explorers since the introduction of the SRV hanger (Diamondbacks in particular) as has already been mentioned above.

Given the incredible cost of outfitting one of the larger ships [My cutter has so far cost me over 1/2 billion Cr just to get where it is [long way to go for max outfitting], its not much to expect that these larger ships should be able to fulfill their multi-role effectively. We are not asking for super weapons or game changing extra's. Just to be able to have a docking computer and discovery scanner in the same slot would be nice.
