20 fps with a 3080?

60FPS?

I find this hard to believe.

Not that "just" 60FPS is any achievement given the game's age and it's generally normal fidelity.
Yes, I've been basically locked at 60 fps on similar mid-range specs both at my usual 1280x720 and at 1080p for testing but I haven't yet done combat past the tutorial. Weird. But my computer is essentially a completely new windows install, so also probably has new drivers and clean graphics config, like those other posts were talking about.

Edit: Not to say that things shouldn't be better, just giving a data point. This has engaged my problem-solving debug-the-code mode. I've got to stop reading, because there's no way I can solve it!

Edit 2: Nvidia 2070, 1080p on ultra at 60 fps was the limit of my testing, just to be complete.

I know you jest a lot, it's why I like your posts!

But surely you have that backwards regarding Red Dead? :D

Also, Microsoft Flight Simulator is probably the most demanding game currently available and is almost certainly simulating a far more complex environment than Elite. The funny thing here is that Flight Simulator is very poorly optimised at the moment, Asobo Studio and Microsoft have admitted that many times. Yet, even with MSFS being one of the most demanding games on the market and with it needing a huge amount of optimisation, it still runs better than Odyssey.

Sure I get your point comparing one game to another is pointless... ;) However, if the most demanding games ever made - ones that simulate more complex environments than Elite and by the developers own admissions are poorly optimised - can achieve better performance than Odyssey on the exact same hardware, than something is very wrong. :)

Thanks. I was actively avoiding open that can of worms, because I have between 40 and 50 frames in MSFS (and yes, with the FBW320) with my current setup and we both know in what state the optimization of MSFS is at the moment.

Regarding Odyssey: I thought that the Cyberpunk-Release was a joke. But Odyssey tops it by miles. I have seen animations programmed by 12 year olds that are way smoother than the animations in Odyssey. I have also seen way more frames per second in more complex and more detailed games.

My conclusion is: It was a good idea to leave Elite two years ago. I had hopes that Frontier has learned from past experiences. But what they do here - especially for the price - is nothing more than a cheap try to press the maximum amount of money out of the "new" customers (and If i would have paid for it, I would certainly have refunded it).

Wipe graphics settings files, and choose high preset, then put all up to high, should work. It did work for me. Somehow it does not seem to like old settings files around.

According to my observation, though, only try this if you have a RTX 2070 (8 GB VRAM) or better.

Anyone else don't bother, not enough VRAM (i.e. GTX 1060-6GB, RTX 2060). Your GPU keeps getting flooded with textures as soon as it vacates them to make more room (100% GPU usage).

I only played briefly yesterday, but my performance was a smooth 30fps on my 3060 in both standard res and 4k.

No chance for me. It must be a bug.

Managed to get a new low! 15 glorious frames per second when I disembarked at Shinrarta! It flipped back to 30fps or so when I Alt-Tabbed out and back again.

Think I need to look at that fix above...

5800x / 3080 / 32gb

This seems to have worked for me. got 15fps in Shinrarta hangar before, 145fps after. Everything still set to ultra. 100fps in hangar station (30 before)

You don't have "FPS loss" on a 60 Hz screen because the 2060 can run it at well over 144fps in Horizons.

60 is unplayable in VR.
