20 fps with a 3080?

It's not - p2p matchmaking - server related is it? Wouldn't be surprised given the hammering servers get on days like this.
I'm getting 9/10 performance (small micro stutter) but not related to where I am.

A word to the wise too .. definitely make sure GFX and other drivers are bang up to date.
No. No, and no. This is nothing to do with us. This isn't some new thing that just cropped up today, it's universal, it's been this way since alpha.

It's nothing to do with our machines or our connections, p2p or anything else. Fdev simply didn't optimise. Apparently at all. Definitely not enough, if the did. And the specs are not factual. I don't get sub 60FPS in any game I play at all, except Odyssey.

And to everyone saying "it's fine", there's a video in the pipeline that'll demonstrate exactly how not "fine" it is.

The explanation is that Red Dead is a simple game with cartoon graphics and physics, while Odyssey is the next-gen of photorealistic graphics and physics. Duh.

Next you'll be comparing Odyssey performance with Microsoft Flight Simulator 🤦‍♂️
Read Dead 2 is neither of what you said, and Elite in no way looks photorealistic. It looks like plastic dolls and toys now.

What I can confirm from my today's session - I was "tuning" graphic options in a Concourse in orbital spaceport:

2560x1080p no supersampling : 60 fps

2560x1080p 1.25 SS - 40-60 fps, depends on direction I am looking

2560x1080p 1.5 SS - holy mother of god, it's slide show

back to 2560x1080p 1.25 SS - what, slide show again

back to 2560x1080p no SS - pffff.... why I can't get 60 fps anymore?

Restarting game - 60 fps again.

This inconsistency suggests some serious problem with game engine - something "breaks" permamently (well, until you quit the game) when you use settings too hard for your hardware - even going back to previous settings can't fix performance loss.

I've only done the tutorial bit and I didn't have a FPS counter up but I was feeling a lot of mouse lag and general low (sub 30) fps. This felt MUCH worse than Alpha where I was getting roughly 70-80 fps.

Playing at 1440p with 5900x, 3080, 32GB ram.

Your PC exceeds recommended specs (...) If you're not getting capped 60FPS constantly, the specs are wrong and that's the end of it.
Wait, why should I assume I should get 60 fps with ANY graphic settings on recommended+ PC?

Recommended <> "will guarantee stable performance on MAXED graphic settings".

... while Read Dead runs in 4k/60fps ?

Any explanation? Is this a bug and will be fixed (what was the alpha for exactly?) or is that all Frontier is able to deliver?
Odd I am getting about half that with a 2Gb GTX950M though the graphics are turned down to medium or thereabouts.

The graphics are set higher than they were in Alpha and the FPS is similar so some things have improved since then.

One thing I have noticed is inconsistent framerates at the same point. The worst performing areas of the game for me are the hanger & concourse (typically around 30fps, though feel lower) but sometimes I can relog and the frame rate is back up at 60+.

Even surface CZs were fine, with rates of mid-40s to high 50s, but feel very smooth & playable.

i have a amd 5 5600x, nvidia 3070 and only getting 18fps while playing in VR using the vr high graphics option, i usual play with vr extreme max out 100 fps, this is rubbish

I know you jest a lot, it's why I like your posts!

But surely you have that backwards regarding Red Dead? :D

Also, Microsoft Flight Simulator is probably the most demanding game currently available and is almost certainly simulating a far more complex environment than Elite. The funny thing here is that Flight Simulator is very poorly optimised at the moment, Asobo Studio and Microsoft have admitted that many times. Yet, even with MSFS being one of the most demanding games on the market and with it needing a huge amount of optimisation, it still runs better than Odyssey.

Sure I get your point comparing one game to another is pointless... ;) However, if the most demanding games ever made - ones that simulate more complex environments than Elite and by the developers own admissions are poorly optimised - can achieve better performance than Odyssey on the exact same hardware, than something is very wrong. :)

My framerate back in proper game was steady at around 100fps. Then when I disembarked at a station and left the lift, it dropped to around 30fps.

Que?

5900x / 3080 / 32GB ram

I'm using an RTX 2060 - I've capped it to 80fps in the nVidia control panel. My monitor is 1920x1080@60Hz.
in open space I get 60-80 fps, this drops to about 45fps in the concourse (solo play or open in a remote concourse with no other CMDR).
Using the nVidia performance overlay, I can see that the GPU is running 60% to 90% but the CPU tends to max out at 95-100% . I'm using an i5-4970 overclocked to 4.2GHz.

This suggests that the CPU could be the bottleneck?
If so, then upgrading the GPU by itself won't help the fps - upgrading the CPU could help - assuming that there's a suitable CPU for this oldermotherboard!

Case in point, the post you quote ;)

On purpose - Sarcasm 101. Like Drax, I assumed everyone would catch it, LOL. RDR2 looks absolutely STUNNING on my PC, and it performs wonderfully as well. Heck, RDR2 looks stunning on my PS4!

That's exactly the point I was making, in my jestful sort of way. MFS also looks amazing on my PC, way better than anything I've seen in Odyssey, and while I don't normally get 60 fps in MFS, the photorealistic graphics more than make up for the lack of framerate (which never dips below 30). Odyssey graphics, on the other hand, feel dated in comparison. The thing is, I'm totally okay with Elite having "dated" graphics if it means I can get great performance at max settings, especially since Horizons is my #1 VR title. But Odyssey giving us dated graphics with terrible performance, that's just inexcusable IMO.

3080 with 20fps something else is wrong your end i think i have a 3070 and everything maxed supersampling at x1.0 is only thing not maxed running at 3440x1440 120 hz and nowere have i seen a drop below 40fps so far

Garbage optimization.

My 1070 is above recommended spec yet at certain points I'm playing a slideshow.

I didn't realise ED was competing with Star Citizen for the worst optimised space game 🤦‍♂️

Your sarcasm was too good this time, I didn't catch it. :D

Totally agree with the graphics. More than happy to accept them not being 2025 level, just so long as we get 2021 performance. :)
