Horizons 20 missions is the max?

Yes, 20 missions is the max. Probably because anything more & the people whining about too many interdictions (because they stacked missions) might explode into a keyboard destroying angry tantrum.

And perhaps because there is only so many teddies one cot can hold (they may run out).

Only kidding!

But is is a design choice taken by the developers, probably to slow down smugglers from all those slave rich places they keep finding...

I had not seen it mentioned anywhere.
I just did my first long range haul, because so many people seem to like it.

I should have listened and tried it earlier, because I really like these long hauls.
Not because of the credits. I think I can make just as much per hour doing short distance trade runs.
It is a different rhythm of doing trade missions. You travel large distances with a decent reward in the end.
It feels much less grindy than normal trade runs.

A pity there's a limit of 20 missions.

There was a release about it - will have to go back and check the patch notes/ Press releases.
I do have a feeling it was something to do with the Robigo/ Sothis/ Ceos runds though! :)

Yeah. It's there, and while I vehemently hate it and the immersion it destroys, it's necessary, especially with the new 24 hour timers instead of timers ranging around a few mins/hour or so.

Navy ranking system is in an awful place but it would be in a worse place if I could sit at Wu Guinagi, stack 300 data delivery missions and drop them off at once.

Yes, I see your point.
I agree.

I see this limitation as nothing more than FD placing yet further grind walls into the game to slow everything down to a crawl.

Yeah, because mode switching to gather 1000 missions is such a great experience. And then those players cry on the forums because they get interdicted a lot.

This could also be a technical limit, as a lot of data is stored server-side rather than client side which has got to be updated quickly to all servers in the cloud. It might also be there to try to prevent delays when players bring up the missions board (not that it doesn't get delayed on its own sometimes!). I personally don't believe FD have done this for plops and giggles to just give the players a hard time.
