2023 DLC

No doubt there’s a 4+ dino pack coming, and I do currently believe it’s release and announcement is going to be like what I’ve speculated twice here in the forums. But what kind it is, I don’t know. If this is a new dinosaur, there’s no reason to say it won’t be part of that new PDLC.

Some say it’s a “Feathered Dinosaur Pack,” but I do have doubtful questions on that theory. All their “standard” dinosaur packs in both games keep their respective style per game. In this case, JWE2’s regular dino packs introduce 2 land, 1 air, and 1 marine species. So, if this is a “4+ feathered dino only pack with just land and, if applicable, air dinos” like I do see some suggesting, are they really deviating away from that cohesive trend of regular JWE2 dino pack designs? I’ll be surprised that they are doing that, not that I have any problem with that at all.

The only way I see that happening is if they introduce 2 land feathered dinos, 1 marine bird for the lagoon which there were in the Mesozoic, and a flying dino which might mean more coding since it may have different flight styles, unless they use true birds which I’m not sure they’ll go for. Maybe species from a range of periods, just as they did for JWE1’s diet based 3+ dino packs, which I don’t know how they will do it. Cretaceous (early and late together) only, or some from Jurassic and/or Triassic?

If it’s a period based 4+ dino pack, which the past two regular dino packs were, the only ones I can guess are the Triassic or even the Early/Late Jurassic.

I’m still hopeful that this year we will still get a camp Cretaceous dlc 2 with Nothosaurus, Smilodon, Spinoceratops, and Tarbosaurus with the brad and brad x ranger/ medical teams , and the roller coaster and camp treehouse, as well as the gondola

If more Camp Cretaceous content will be coming, I’m guessing they will come in a major expansion type PDLC. The CC dino pack I consider a “special” dino pack, partly because it announced weeks before release, and for something like Camp Cretaceous makes sense. Besides, I knew if this upcoming DLC was Camp Cretaceous, it’d probably be already announced by now which was one reason why I knew it wouldn’t be that.

No new dinosaurs from Camp Cretaceous have feathers.
I am sure this is either Ornithomimus or a new Oviraptosaur.

Honestly, I hope we don't get this. Nothing against you, it's just that it would be a shame to waste a DLC on more Camp Cretaceous content when we could get something new like a Triassic or Jurassic dinosaur pack instead. One Camp Cretaceous DLC is more than enough.

What is wrong with more Camp Cretaceous content?! We are missing Tarbosaurus, Nothosaurus, Spinoceratops, Smilodon & Woolly Mammoth (mentioned in season 1) which are key from Camp Cretaceous!

Frontier's release cycle is pretty consistent: March, June, September, December, repeat. They never do two expansion packs in a row so the March 2023 DLC will almost certainly be another creature pack. They still need to add at least some of the missing creatures from Dominion and Camp Cretaceous. They're definitely adding Microceratus and Tarbosaurus sometime this year. I predict March or June. It'd be weird to wait longer than that. I'm hoping that they add Smilodon (saber tooth), Sino-Spino (Spinoceratops), and Nothosaurus as well, but those all have their own unique reasons for why they might not get added. Smilodon would be kind of odd as the lone mammal (aside from humans and goats) in the game, even alongside fellow synapsids Lystrosaurus and Dimetrodon. Sino-Spino's only ever seen as a juvenile, and Nothosaurus is semi-aquatic. If they do add all five creatures, then they'll probably be split between the March and June DLC, or even September, since Frontier seems pretty set on only four new creatures (excluding variants and skins) per DLC.

I'm hoping for free Microceratus in June (in addition to paid DLC) to celebrate Jurassic Park the movie's 30th anniversary. Otherwise, maybe Microceratus will be in an Isla Nublar pack alongside Teratophoneus, Peloroplites, (both seen dead in Fallen Kingdom) and Segisaurus (apparently seen on the Jurassic Park brochure)? The other Camp Cretaceous creatures I expect to see in a Mantah Corp pack. Sure, Tarbosaurus is from InGen, but the 65 MYA T. rex still shows up in the Dominion BioSyn expansion despite never appearing in BioSyn Valley, and Moros intrepidus shows up in the Dominion Malta expansion despite never being seen in Malta.

Credit goes to Evolution Square for a lot of what I just stated above.

Beyond that, I've no idea what Frontier has planned. I've got my fingers crossed for a Socotra Island (where the Dominion Prologue was filmed) map and hopefully some more feathered dinos, furry pterosaurs, and non-dinosaur terrestrial creatures. It would otherwise seem kind of weird that Frontier developed a whole new shader just for seven movie creatures / skins and also never expanded on the possibilities that Dimetrodon and Lystrosaurus bring to the table.
I'm thinking a Dominion 1986 Expansion Pack since Microceratus was at Isla Sorna around that year when Charlotte was there.

Just here to place my bet that it’s an oviraptor 😊 Excited for new DLC and update!

Edit: I forgot we already have oviraptor. So my bet changes to ornithomimus 😅

Oh my... makes me hopeful this is some kind if feathered dinosaur pack... lots of potential options. Yutyrannus maybe? Or perhaps Guanlong? Really hope it is not Utahraptor... seriously, do we need another Jurassic raptor clone?

Regarding Utahraptor, the feathers and size are what set this dromaeosaur apart from Velociraptor, Atrociraptor, and Pyroraptor. I have seen Utahraptor before in ARK: Survival Evolved in which players can ride such dromaeosaur when it is successfully domesticated.

And actual Utahraptor isn't considerably bigger than a Jurassic raptor... or the Pyroraptor, which also has feathers... a Utahraptor would be very redundant.

All dromaeosaurs have the same behavior being pack hunters. For some reason, the Atrociraptor hunting a goat plays out differently than the Velociraptor and Pyroraptor.

All I'm getting from this is that their tiny selection of animations are sometimes different... which still doesn't make them all that different from each other.

I have once read that it was the Utahraptor being discovered in Cedar Mountain Formation in Utah. Even so, it seems pointless that the appearances and places of fossil discovery of the dromaeosaurs differs.
