2023 Essential habitat animals META-WISHLIST:

With random goat's blessing, I am starting a new wishlist for HABITAT animals only. This one will account for prioritization. You can post 10 to 50 animals. The first animal should be your favorite, and the last should be your least favorite.

There will be no resubmissions, but the list will be renewed each year until they stop making DLCs. Posts may be edited throughout the current month, but I won't look at new changes after the month ends. (i.e. If the ORIGINAL post was on December 15th, I won't start adding it until January 1st. Then, you can't edit animals.) Please use this time to correct formatting and remove disqualified animals.

The spirit and basic rules of the thread will be similar to those of the first one. Which means:

For the sake of keeping the same wishlist structure, I ask you to post your 10-50 essential habitat animals that you’d like to see in the game. Lists with anything above 50 or under 10 animals will be discarded.
ONLY THE FIRST 25 animals will be counted for a list with the counts.
I may combine the values of the lists in the future.
Exhibit animals will be omitted from the main meta-wishlist. Exhibit animals include arthropods, amphibians, snakes, other small reptiles (< iguanas), small fish and mouse-size mammals.
Flying birds and bats usually housed in aviaries will be omitted from the main meta-wishlist. Flying aviary birds include birds of prey, parrots, Columbiformes (pigeons), Passeriformes (small birds), Charadriiformes (gulls) and so on. Mainly ground-dwelling or semi-aquatic birds (mainly Waterfowl, Galliformes, Ratites, Pelecaniformes, Cranes, Penguins, etc.) will be added to the list.
Extinct species will not be considered.
As a general rule of thumb, animal species is the preferred category for animal submissions. Subspecies from already in-game animals are also accepted. Subspecies from animals that are not in-game will automatically be allocated to the superior species category. Specific domestic animals breeds are also accepted.
To simplify data collection, those answers that include several species in one slot (eg.: 1. Sloth) will be automatically treated as a single animal and added to the most requested species inside that generic animal group (eg. in this case: Brown-Throated Three-Toed Sloth). This obviously leads to an underestimation of the total key requested animals.

There is nothing wrong with it. I thought this would be useful for people that want to change up their old list (i.e. voted for Lar Gibbon and don't want it after Siamang). Also, this one will have a separate list that incorporates the animals that people want most.

There's isn't a whole lot I want in PZ, but here we go:

Gray fox - my favorite animal. This is something I just totally want as it can climb trees and has a nice coat
Greater rhea - an essential bird for SA sections, yes
American black bear - an essential bear for NA sections, yes
Tasmanian devil - a fierce little marsupial carnivore and adorable
Spider monkey - can use the semi-new brachiation enrichment and a great New World primate
Howler monkey - another great New World primate and will use the chorus system
Siberian musk deer - a prehistoric-looking ungulate
Lion-tailed macaque - a great monkey for Asia, specifically India
Wild boar - a huge range through Europe and Asia
Red river hog - would be great to be in a gorilla enclosure

They are only used for the traditional counting system, so no one get 50 votes.

There will be another list with an alternative counting system that takes favorites into consideration.
I'll use a ten animal list to explain:

Marsh Deer
Reeve's Muntjac
White Tailed Deer
Southern Pudu
Red Deer
Roosevelt Elk
Père David's Deer
Musk Deer
Chital
Sika Deer

Under the traditional system, the first 25 will get a vote for the count list, so all of these will be included.

Under the second "favorite" system, which will accept up to 50:

The "Favorites" list will incorporate the animals people want the most
- X = position on your personal wishlist
- Y = your personal wishlist length
- Priority points received = (list length + 1 - X) / (Y*(Y+1)/2) * 100

Marsh Deer is position 1.

X = 1
Y = 10

Priority points received = (10 + 1 -1) / (10*11/2) *100
Priority points received = 18.18

Père David's Deer is position 7.

X = 7
Y = 10

Priority points received = (10 + 1 - 7) / (10*11/2) *100
Priority points received = 7.27

Then, I would add 18.18 points to the Marsh Deer's overall wishlist score, and 7.27 to the Père David's Deer.

This will incorporate people's favorite animals into the list.

Edited to fix the math. Now smaller lists will get a comparable amount of votes. Fixed the math again. Did some Googling to get it right this time. (I forgot the sum formula.)

I honestly thought the meta list should have gotten a fresh start tbh. I appreciate random goat and all the work he puts into it but here’s the problem I had with the meta list. Take a animal like the red fox(awesome animal) but I think I might have had it on my list anyway after the inclusion of the arctic fox the need for the red fox went down for me personally. Like I said great animal and I’ll definitely use them from time to time but because the animal stays on the list the level of need changes once a similar animal fills that niche deeming that animal not really necessary for many.

I really had to reorganize my wishlist a lot based on ground oriented birds/wading birds and more waterfowl not being included at all (even the Secretary Bird or Kiwi!) on my initial lists. Oddly enough included Penguins/and Ema but no other birds. This added 11 animals that are marked in bold. Of course, if we included all birds, there'd be a lot more additions. Also finally readjusting and reordering my wishlist order which was overdue in some cases. Finally, in some cases, I don't care which particular species, just one of that kind of animal, and those have an asterik by them.
