2080 ti prices... ouch!

So I’m getting ready to upgrade both of my PCs in the hope that my pimax arrives when I return to UK in DEC. I currently have a 1080 in my Saudi system and a 980ti in the UK (which only gets used three months of the year). The thought was to bring the 1080 back to the Uk and pick up a 2080 ti to take back to Saudi, but the prices are insane!

It now seems to make more sense to buy two 1080ti’s (or two 2080’s) and switch out both of my current graphics cards. But the annoying thing is I could’ve done that years ago! I’ve been waiting for the new cards to drop for at least two years now!

If I buy the 2080 ti and take it back to Saudi as planned I can at least claim back the VAT.
Assuming I don’t replace the card again for another two years, is the 2080 ti worth getting? I don’t mean financially but in terms of the little bit more juice it can provide for the pimax???

Good old rendering seem to be about 30% faster with the 2080ti over the 1080ti.

Maybe even slightly more benefit in VR but that's highly game dependent.

Personally I'm staying on the 1080ti.
The RTX is a step in a new direction and by the time anything really uses it we will have significantly better cards out for less.

Could check the Sweviver review of the 2080ti for the pimax 5k & 8k if you like.

I heard in a video that Nvidia might bring out a new generation of graphics cards next year, skipping to 8min 10s:

So even if I had the money, the RTX series (probably just a short lived, stopgap messure, as mentioned in the video) doesn't seem worth it, unless you must have the best of the best NOW (and next couple months maybe *totally speculating*)

No doubt the 2080ti is the most powerful card out.

But it's simply too much for not enough oomph.

So I'm going to stick my head in the dirt for a few months, or twelve, and muddle on with my 1080ti.

As expensive as the 2080Ti is I'm looking at entire systems that have it included. Here in the USA BestBuy is offering a new system with 2080Ti for $2399:

Basically you're paying $1100-$1200 for the computer over what a stand-alone GPU would cost.

If I bite on the pre-order for the Pimax 5k+ I might as well plan on getting this as my current cyberpowerpc system is 2 years old and has a 1070 GPU, not nearly enough to push the Pimax unless settings are turned way down. Right now BestBuy has 12 month no interest financing but periodically they run 24 month no interest specials, if I see one of those I may bite on this new system.
