21/04/2015 The Day Bounty Hunting Died

Did you write the book of Lave?
And would you call "this land" "your grave"?
If a griefer caught you cold?
Or do you believe in laser bolts?
Can "Lance & Ferman" be your "Colt"?
Will you teach me how to boost real slow?

See I know that you're in love with him,
'cause I saw you flying round the Rim -
And then you both hit supercruise,
And left me the firefly bluuuu-ues!

I was a lonely space-age Yeager Chuck,
With a tricked out Clipper and a Lakon truck,
But I knew I was out of luck,
The day the bounties died.
Holy hell, most massive props to you, Mr. Silver.
That actually made my day.

+1

Simply amazing.

How dare you Sir ! (slaps around face with glove) Beth's 'superstructure' is a case of constant wonder to me, how do they keep it there, what engineering feets were involved. Its a modern miracle I tell you.

Repulsorlift technology. It works in the Star Wars universe, and the landspeeders are much bigger than her superstructure. Well, ok, maybe not that much bigger.

the cap didn't killed player bounty hunting, it made it realistic

the ONLY things that make Player Bounty Hunting pointless (and dead) are cheating and combatlog

that would have just encouraged everyone to pay off their bounties and made the whole thing worse, the measure they took will achieve their goal which was to stop 2 billion being transferred instantly. Its not the best solution that i've read but its better than nothing.

Agreed. I don't know if there is an easy answer that works for everyone, but the situation as it was certainly had let the pendulum swing way too far in the wrong direction.

I'd rather see it over-correct a bit and at least stop the abuses, but I certainly don't want the viability of piracy and bounty hunting eliminated. If they can find a balance where legitimate, i.e. intended, game activity is more profit per unit time than shortcut credit farming, I think everyone would be a lot happier. I'll be really happy if what they've done today can actually achieve that.

The game is a lot of fun, but explaining how to use the galaxy map or outfitting to someone driving an Anaconda has to make you wonder...

Would appreciate your views on what you think would be a better solution.

I think the move is a good one, in order to counter the bounty exploit. However the entire crime and punishment thing needs another look. Yes the planned changes regarding persistent bounties will help, but I feel that is not going far enough.

Firstly I think players should be able to award bounties on other players, ala Eve online. This should be in addition to the NPC faction bounties. Secondly there should be a mechanic for tracking people down. It should cost money, or perhaps some form of in game mechanic that means you have to work to find someones location. Thirdly, there needs to be a clear distinction of high bounty players who are in open and those in closed or groups. Essentially only players that are currently in open are reported. Theres no fun for anyone in trying to hunt someone who frequents solo. When I check the top bounties I need to know that these are real Cmdrs that I have a chance of seeing in open.

That lies the problem with trying to go after those with a bounty now.. It is more luck than anything else if you bump into someone with a big bounty..

What is needed is real time information. It is the year 3100 after all. A big bounty goes into a base and you are with in a coupe of jumps you look at you screen and can see this.

As it is now the information in the news is useless.

If it was a bit easier to track these guys down then it would have the flow on effect of reducing griefers as they can be hunted.

Is this thread serious? I tried to read the whole thing but there really wasn't any serious debate.

IMO PvP bountyhunting was bad all the time. It can be done but there are so little amount of people who do crimes.

I wish that you had to choose sides in the game. And doing ranking missions you should do operative strikes in the other allegiance which would make you wanted there.

All the unhappy posters in this thread were seen yesterday, in protest to the news:
