22 March newsletter

To be honest, there has not been anything in the newsletters worth reading since I can't remember when (probably pre-Horizons). Would I miss them if Frontier were to stop sending them? Nope. Would it be a smart move for them to stop sending them completely? No, it would be incredibly dumb. So based on Frontier's current communications approach, I never expect to see one again :p

I believe I stopped reading newsletters when the dev updates stopped.

'This very same procedure' really? Sorry but I don't believe that you managed to do it with zero-downtime.

Moving from one forum framework to another, yes. In that case it was from SMF to vBulletin, but the principles are the same. About an hour of downtime is the norm in my experience, or a few hours if there are unforeseen issues. 5 minutes if you really know your stuff and all you have to wait on is a schema migration or something. Multiple days is just bizarre

They aren't just moving from one framework to the other though (which is already complicated enough), they are merging forums from other games as well. I agree that 3 days are probably not necessary but it gives them some room if things go wrong (and if you are really a web developer you will know that things always go wrong).

PS
And yes, you could probably do it faster but it's not like the forums are their top priority. It's just a place for some maniacs to share their doom scenarios and other maniacs who constantly argue with them. Some companies don't even have their own forums.

I also haven't had a newsletter... but, that's normal, I get them for a random period then they just stop and if I notice and resubscribe then they come again for a random period than stop again.
I suspect Riverside may be right about it being on twitter or perhaps facebook - FDev are particularly bad at this (though not alone by any means) - heaven forbid you actually put info on your own companies website.

Got mine too. Issue #263 on the 8th March, issue #264 today. No explanation for the delay, and the most noteworthy news is that it arrived at all ;)
