For me it`s really bad(Performance)now to fight in a HazRes,specially with MC when i open my Ship for others (network related?).
It`s nice to see more Pirates there but for me this feels abit overdone.
I play in VR and i see many artifacts (on the edges of Rocks) when i set the volumetric effects below Ultra. So no way for me to push the FPS this Way.
I have picture Freezes too.
I'm pretty sure this is an AI algorithm problem. Everything's fine when it's quiet but when you have NPC-on-NPC combat, it stutters a lot - HAZRES/CZ etc.
The framerate counter doesn't really highlight how jerky and unplayable it is because it's averaging out the stutters between moments of smoothness (in my case 75fps). The combination of 75fps and 10-ish stutters a second makes the FPS counter read as 30-40fps but in reality, it's stuttering about ten times a second so it plays as if it was 10fps.
I have three completely different machines (GTX 860M, GTX 970, Vega56) and the behaviour is the same regardless of which network I'm playing on and what hardware I'm running on.
This bug existed way back in 2.2, almost two years ago. It's manifesting slightly differently in this patch, because it's more stuttery than it was back in 2017 and I haven't had it so bad that the sound cut out or the game locks up for quite as long, but the general behaviour of stuttering only when NPCs are firing holds true.
This is the old 2.2 video:
