30 minutes at a CNB.

There are times when you just want to whizz around, pretending you're Buck Rogers, without having to worry about any other aspects of the game and CNBs are terrific for this.

I drop into the CNB at Wala (one of my favorite hunting grounds) and see what's on the menu.

Immediately I spot an Elite Anaconda which is Wanted. Rich pickings indeed!
I deploy my weapons and my SLF.
I strip it's shields, soften it up with a couple of bursts fro my rails and leave it for my SLF to finish the job.
I'm dazzled by the glorious explosion and my ears are assaulted by the noise, but this is where the real fun starts.

I switch to my collector limpet controller and eagerly launch my collectors.
The Anaconda has yielded plenty of useful debris which will help me with some upgrades I have planned.

Around me I can see bursts of laser fire in the darkness.
I have a twinge of regret at seeing law-abiding ships meet their doom while I scoop materials but their loss is my gain.
My heart leaps as one of my collectors delivers an exquisite focus crystal and my mind races at the almost endless possibilities this will bring.
Should I use it on a weapon mod' or should I embark on the journey to a mat-trader and swap it for a variety of other mat's

I'm pulled back to the moment as I realise that my SLF has decided to attack another ship.
But, wait!
I still haven't finished scooping mat's from the destroyed Anaconda.
My SLF is going to destroy a Cobra about 3km away and I'm not sure if I'll be able to collect the mat's it's dropped in time.

I carefully examine my scanner and manoeuvre my ship so it's between the two clusters of debris to minimise the travel distance for my limpets.
This is the stuff!
None of your mindless, exciting, frantic combat for me.
Combat in ED is a thinking man's game.
Minimum effort for maximum reward.
Those mat's are going to be important for my future plans.
Let those other fools shoot at each other.
I have better things to do.

I wait patiently for my limpets to finish their jobs and reflect on how much more... diverse... this new combat is.
It's almost as exciting as mining but with the added bonus of being able to see other ships shooting at each other while I wait.

The tension builds as I finally clear the debris left by the Anaconda and the Cobra.
And then, without warning, a gift falls into my lap.
An FGS winged with 3 Eagles scans me.
My instincts tell me he's a pirate. I scan him and I find I'm right.
I unleash my rails and he's destroyed.
My turrets quickly dispatch the 3 Eagles, ably assisted by my SLF.

What untold treasures are now mine for the taking?
My heart leaps as I see some Heat Conduction Wiring and some Mechanical Scrap awaiting my limpets.
These are worthy treasures, to be sure.
This is truly a blessing since the 4 debris fields, all close together, give my limpets plenty to do for a while, thus enabling me to nip into the kitchen and put the kettle on, mid-battle, and have a look at the newspaper while they gather my new treasures for me.

I see that more bad weather is due and a survey has revealed that lots of people are fat.
I can't be distracted by these trivialities though.
The kettle has boiled and it's time to make a cup of coffee.
I locate my favorite mug and fill it with coffee, adding a dash of cold water so I don't have to wait before I can drink it.

And then it's back to the combat.
My limpets have almost cleared the debris left by the wing of 4 ships.
I can only imagine what treasures they will have secured for me.

I'm distracted by the laser-fire from a fierce battle several kilometres away.
I make the decision to leave my limpets behind and head into battle.
More targets, more explosions and it's time to go to work again.
I launch more limpets and send them on their way, bringing me more materials so I can continue modifying my ships.
The excitement is almost unbearable.

So, I decided to write a thread about it.
Mid battle.

What fun!

Been doing the same quite a bit since 3.0 dropped. For making pirates explode and collecting materials CNB's are where its at :)

I was in a CZ last night, in my Corvette. Opened up multicrew, within seconds both seats were occupied, and the fighters launched. Whenever the radar was a clutter of white squares, I got to thinking, these nice people come and help me out, and what kind of a host would I be to allow them to hurt themselves flying into some old Equisite Focus Crystals. So I parked up in the middle of the fight, sent out my little collectors, and tidied up. Health and Safety at War, so to speak.

The Corvette runs so cool, you can site in the middle of the fight indefinitely without getting targeted. And if you get some competent multicrew pilots, the credits keep rolling in as fast as the materials.

So there you go, two much maligned aspects of the game (mats farming and multicrew) actually a whole lot of fun done at the same time, with a side a credit grinding.

(And maybe Im just a weird social freak, but chatting to strangers who drop into your ship, presents the opportunity to upgrade them to friends, no materials required)

You got people joining your ship who didn't just fire off all your heat-sinks then use up all your SCBs before jumping into SLFs and shooting up the cops and then attacking your ship?

I want their names.

I always have at least 2x3A collectors, then is when you realise dirty drives doesn't help at all :)
