3080 owners and ED

So did anyone get there hands on a 3080 and if so has after a few weeks has it made an impact to ED? im expecting a no but i am curious. I am going to get one once they nail down the issues and the water blocks are availble

I think you should wait to see what RDNA2 from AMD brings to the table. Their rumoured and now confirmed patented and trademarked infinity cache, could be a game changer. We will just need to see how things stack up in real world benchmarks.

Have one on order, tbh it sounds like overkill for non VR cmdrs. (1080ti going cheap for any uk cmdrs, missing a fan tho)

edit, actually it's the 3090. Isn't the 3080 on par with 2080TI?

From Nvidia's information, the 3080 has twice the computing power of the 2080 Ti. The 3070 is a bit better than the 2080 Ti.

Yeah im watching the RDNA2 as well. I am a VR CMDR and im running a 1080ti now so either will be a worthwhile upgrade for me and its the finishing touch of a new system.

I have other things the card will be running not just ED but deffo interested to see if anyone had see benifits, can the game push the card

I only pre-ordered so it can run the Reverb G2 with the new flight simulator. 2080TI is more than enough for ED, my 1080TI doesn't break a sweat in VR with the Reverb G1, and that's with one of the fans missing. Just a mild overclock.

Only killer I've found in VR with ED is ambient occlusion.

30xx LMAO

"Good luck with that!"

You can preorder here in the UK at overclockers.co.uk

Am not in rush to receive it. Next Gen VR HMD's are not out for a while anyway. And who knows how this pandemic will turn out over the next few months.

I can understand buying the RTX 3090 for gaming and professional use, but it's not value for money for gaming only. The RTX 3090 is only about 10% faster than a RTX 3080 at double the price. The issue with the 3080 is the Vram size, but there are rumours of 20GB versions on the way.

got an RTX3080, but haven`t tried it on ED, it`s T-j Fault (j/k)

Anyhoo: This short post below is for people who are interested and sitting on the fence, whether to buy one or not.

On the games wow:

Dirtrally2 max settings in VR 80-90 FPS on most tracks
F1 2018 benchmark, max settings 4k 144fps (does not interest me, due to no VR) got it free
ACC still junk on VR (VR needs to be updated for me to play) Sorry Kunos.

on other games, all games tested so far run smooth, will have to test a few more.
When I get time.

Compared to my GTX1080 it was a very welcome upgrade, she`s still in my mini workstation.
RTX3080 in in my new toy, so far no bottleneck, like how the GPU can access the PCI-E 4 Nvme drive and pull data without using the CPU.(in some cases)

Bored with being in lockdown. so purchased a new toy, seeing I don't drink or smoke and being retried. ( Mr Boring )

System:
AMD R9 3900XT
ASUS ROG X570 CROSSHAIR VIII HERO
RTX3080
DDR4 16GB 3200MHZ CORSAIR VENGEANCE LPX BLACK (X4) (the way windows10 works, no matter what size ram you have, it caches it all.)
COOLERMASTER MASTER CASE H500M - 1 MCM-H500M-IHNN-S00
CORSAIR HYDRO H150I RGB PRO XT CPU COOLER
CORSAIR PSU 1000W RMX SERIES RM1000X
SEAGATE FIRECUDA 520 NVME PCI-E4 SSD 1TB
MSI CLUTCH GM50 GAMING MOUSE (Prefer my old RAT5)
SKORPION K2 MECHANICAL KEYBOARD
WINDOWS 10
(no E-PEEN added, prebuilt due to diabetes affecting my eyesight )

BTW don`t be scared of the 10Gig Vram, some Utubers haven't got a clue, 1) they jump on the bandwagon 2) They are too fixated on Benchmark scores (yeah I Said It)
Other notes the RTX3080 is a Very good 4k gaming card, VR is knocked out of the park, scoring a home run compared to the I7 4820k @ 4.2 GHz, GTX1080

MSI RTX 3080 VENTUS 3X OC 10GB
Positives
320bit bus width
760.3 GB/s Bandwidth
8704 Shaders (Cuda Cores)
473.3 GTexel/s
RoPs 96
TMU 272
Able to fetch data Via the PCI-e 4 lanes direct from your storage device.
Cool running no need for water blocks.
Buy it, if you want to play games 1440p and above.

Negatives
No DV-Link (don't care)
Limited to OC due to the PowerLimit being locked down, Will need to Shunt mod it (I Won`t)
MSI model only has 3 DP ports and 1 and only one HDMI 2.1
Don`t buy it, if you only play 1080p gaming.

Well I`m off to bed, have a great night/day commanders O7 👨‍🚀🍻👩‍🚀

The 3080 is typically 30-40% faster than the 2080 Ti, if you aren't CPU limited.

The 3090 is 10-15% faster than the 3080.

From Nvidia's information, the 3080 has twice the computing power of the 2080 Ti.

Raw FLOPS is a poor indicator of gaming performance. It's not meaningless, but rendering, especially in real gaming scenarios, is more than peak FP32 specs.

You really don't need a 3080 for ED. ED works on low end PCs. It's possible to max the graphics (not high resolution though) on a medium PC.

I was unsuccessful in getting a RTX 3080 and Xbox Series X preorder. Not willing to pay Ebay prices. On the bright side, it will now be able to see what AMD's Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs have to offer before my next GPU purchase.

I also do videography up here in Yorkshire with the Mavic Zoom & Air 2. Tbh I just want to get something that I can leave in my machine for a very very long time.

That will last you a long time. I'm hoping to upgrade my PC before Brexit hits. Just hope I can get my hands on a Ryzen 5950x and RX 6900XT/RTX 3080 before that happens.

There are people who have too much money to spend.

They absolutely want the number 9 in the name of the card. :)

Professional use aside, I don't quite see the point of buying these cards (certainly not the 3090) at the moment, are there actually any games that would push them (besides Flight Simulator perhaps)?

Also the above recommendation of buy a 3080 if you want 1440p and above... come on.
