Is it worth giving away such a large sum? Will the Alliance make me at least an ally? I wouldn't mind giving it away if it would save me doing 'tedious' missions to slowly build my Alliance reputation. Has anyone ever given this sum away?

Short answer is No, it's not worth it, unless you have a rather large excess of credits. Which you do apparently.. ;) There are Commanders who had donated similar sums of money, many of which feel a little short changed.

I grinded for that money until my teeth started to grind as well.

I did 3 donation missions in a row in Durius to see what would happen in terms of rep with one of the local faction : no effect. Unless they have been fixed, I'd say these missions are either broken either pretty useless.

Alioth Independents in LP 131-66, the ones asking you for 4 mil, you should know that they originated from LP 419.

Say it out loud. Four. One. Nine.

before i went from mikunn to pand i was being asked for 10000 credits, those were a lot esier than the 4mil or mil requests. If such a large donation actually did something to a balance in a system i might be interested but as it stands someone said it was bugged.

I believe it only helps the minor faction you give it to, as to your Alliance standing I'm concerned (Or hopeful as some have donated such a sum towards the independence of Lugh) that it may only help your standing with the Minor faction. Lugh wants independence from the Federation.

Sometimes the 4k donation mission (I think, I forgot the lowest tier donation amount) pops up, I do those if I am bored / heading to the system. The rep effect AFAIK is exactly the same whether you donate 4k or 4m, so save your money.

if it buys the minor faction an army of eagles or vipers then id be happy with that, but theres no way of teling if its not bugged, and or working

On the one hand your reputation goes up because you are being so generous.

On the other hand, your reputation drops through the floor for being a gullible idiot
