Newcomer / Intro 5 second delay on the boost button?

I had seen a video where they dealt with an interdiction by submitting then boosting repeatedly and waking out again.

I tried this and nearly got wiped out - even though the ENG column had filled-up again after boosting, further button or key presses for boost wouldn't work until about 5 sec after the last one. (Yes I had 4 pips to eng.) is this something new? If so why - or is it a bug?

P.S. - (Unrelated but not worth a thread.) On coming out of SC in a mandalay I get a flash of colour overhead in the "windscreen" - in the colour of the repaint(?) - anyone else or am I having a stroke? ;)

There are two limits on how often you can boost:
  1. How full your ENG capacitor is. If the boost will take the capacitor past 0, then you can't boost.
  2. Each ship has a boost timer that limits how often it will boost, regardless of the ENG capacitor.
Was this in a Type 9?

In this example (a Type 9 with a 6A charge enhanced distributor with super conduits), the distributor allows the ship to boost every three seconds. However, the ship's boost is fundamentally capped at 6 second intervals.

Oh that makes sense - it was in a Mandalay and yes that shows 5 sec as the interval.

So much to learn LOL

Thanks

If you're traveling and boosting in a straight line turn Flight Assist off and you won't lose speed anywhere near as much between boosts. (If not in a straight line, you still won't lose speed, but it's harder to go in the direction you want!)

Hit your SC or Jump key/button, and as you get close to FSD kicking in go FA-on and boost to make sure your ship is "aligned".

I recently got the Mandalay and it happens to me also and only in this ship!
