61 million enough to get a good start on a python

No, but here how I did it (and it increased the fun factor).
I bought the Python from about nearly the same money. I invested the rest in cargo holds and cargo. The Python is a flyable ship even when it's stock - the power supply has plenty of power, the shield is also fine, it doesn't overheat, etc.
So I was there with my new Python with some empty compartments and a cargo hold full of stuff - no money for insurance and no room for error.
Did a couple of runs and all money I gained had been invested into more cargo hold and more cargo.
I spent a good few days with trading - sharp senses on, new brain circuits developed; it's the fun part.

The first improvement I made after the cargo holds was the FSD to reduce the number of jumps I had to make. Then power distributor. Then shields. And so on.
Now, I have a Python sturdy enough to hunt RES with it and enough money for insurance. FUn is over :)
Anyway I'm planning to clear my save if 1.3 is worthy enough. :)

SO I encourage you to buy that Python. It's a gamble, especially if you play in open, but hey, that's life :)

yea its wasn't enough. so I am trading witch is fun. I was getting tired of res hunting. If I had it to do over I would say 75 mill min. I screwed up the adding I guess.
I just made 200k on a trade 20 ly away.

thanks

I say go for it. I have upgraded all my ships when I could just barely afford it. It has kept the game fun for me. When I upgraded to my sky cow, I could not afford insurance, cargo and upgrades. So I did it in steps. Now, my space cow is making major Cr's with 500T cargo and I average between 1M - 1.5M Cr's per round trip. I earned my way here by fighting and 10M Cr's from exploring and 10 M from trading. Now, my top stat with money is almost trading. I have not upgraded all the components on my cow yet, and probably won't, as I'm saving up for the diamond back, courier And a clipper.

Trading is is not as bad as I thought it was going to be! Landing the Type-9 is awesome, I feel like I'm landing a helicopter, with its great view!

72 mil will get you something like this, with one rebuy. Of course some will say you can do it cheaper. Some will tell you only a full A grade build will do, but that is not what you asked.

61mil is tight. Bare bones.

It will work in RES. Has some stamina, but let's face it, it won't set the universe on fire. You'll be very conscious of those asteroids. Still, gradual upgrading is good fun, and there is a lot of scope for that in the python.

Final bit of advice....you will get to a point when you lust after A7 power. An evil voicw will whisper that you could sell your 110mil python, buy a t9 and then quickly grind out the extra. Been there, got the T-shirt, still scrubbing myself obsessively to rid myself of the taint. Say no to space cows. ;).....or not.

Enjoy

1 rebuy is not worth the risk IMO

Im glad I did it . I was nervous at 1st. I had to down grade all the stock component's to the cheapest I could put in there place to buy the cargo racks and a FSD that would jump 9 years. no insurance no shields no thrusters that would work . I got on a trade route 600k every 15 min I made 10 mill last night, im stylen now

hello

is that enough to get decent guns shield. and other?

You didn't say what you want to use your Phython for, but I'll assume a trading Python to start with, since you can't make a fighting one anywhere near that price.

For a trading Python, you're almost there, a few more million though:

I use the setup below for trading, and it works splendidly... speedy, nimble like a much smaller ship and doesn't overheat or has any other bad habits you might know from the Lakon ships. This feels like an expensive car, heavy but agile nonetheless. Combat pilots are going to sneer at D rated engines and all that, but this is set to give you the most jump range, while still using a shield that matches the mass of the ship properly. Some suggest using an A3 shield to squeeze in 8 more cargo, but my Python is over the A3 shield generator's max weight, so I don't know if 0A shield boosters will suffice or not, I prefer to play it safe, cause a load of Palladium or Slaves can cost 4 million, adding to the ~3 million rebuy, I'd hate to loose 7 million in one shot cause my shield didn't hold.

If you're surprised at a 4A power plant in a Python, it is enough without weapons and it saves weight while still giving you surplus power. 13.4 LY range (full cargo) isn't bad with only a B rated FSD. As soon as you get the extra 3.3 million for the A rated FSD, its up to 16.4 LY (full cargo). But the FSD is no reason to wait longer to switch to the Python, because its just so much better to fly than a T7.

A combat Python would be somewhere around 100 million.

So far, my trading Python is still making more money than my Vulture can, so...

One last comment: I have plenty of cash laying around, yet I feel no need to 'upgrade' anything at all, partly because any further upgrades would downgrade the jump range. (other than the A5 FSD, which I got from the very first 3.3 million I earned with it)

With the T7, I used to take any excuse to do something other than undocking... I'd go on the forums, play with excel or whatever. Not the case with the Python ^^
