A bit ticked off right now.

So, I flew to a resort outpost and logged off last night. Today, I logged back in and found that I wasn't in the outpost anymore, it had put me out in the wilderness, about 3km away. So, I started running to get back to the settlement and my ship.

While on my way, I was jumping to reduce the time, and while I was in midair, a guard decided to scan me. Now, I had NO bounties or any other crimes to my name, I'm scrupulous about that. But, because I was in midair when he tried to scan me, it decided that falling from the sky was trying to run away, and he started attacking me. So, I ran for it. I evaded the thousand or so guards there were all over the place (never once firing on anyone), and ran to my ship. I boarded, and while it was loading, I gather they were already shooting the ship because by the time the fade to black cleared, I had no shields and was at 20% hull left. Pretty impressive weapons that can obliterate a starship in less than 5 seconds.

So, for NO REASON AT ALL, I'm out the rebuy for my Cobra IV, AND lost all my cargo (2.2 million in silver), AND lost all my exploration and biological data (another 2 million, roughly).

Now, I have plenty of cash, the losses are an annoyance, but not crippling. The Cobra is worth only around 400k to rebuy, so not terrible.

The issue I have is that I did NOTHING WRONG. I was in MIDAIR for pete's (I'm inclined to use another word here) sake, what was I supposed to DO?

The actions of the authorities in this game have been the subject of much discussion in the past. I think it's about time for another talk. Not bad enough they're scanning me every 30 seconds, now they're shooting me for no damn reason.

They should be programmed to chase first and after a minute of chasing to start shooting.
Or something like that
Even if they would give you a few seconds, I didn't have time even to LAND.

Also, how long will they continue to chase after you? I mean, I went and hid, but they just never stopped looking for me (and magically seemed to know where I was, regardless). At what point can I safely return to my business (or at least safely return to my ship)?

You were supposed to be more careful when around guards. Maybe slow down? Be aware of your surroundings?

Obviously.
I was aware of him, but I'd been scanned only a few seconds before, and didn't expect to need to be scanned again so soon.

Man, that really sucks. I'd be just as frustrated!

I would have dumped as much biowaste etc as I could get all over the resort. Tbh it's bad programming that caused them to get miffed at you for no reason, the scan mechanic should take into account altitude to get that one sorted.

That is frustrating, but a result I think of the folks who would jump to avoid scanning.

As shared pain is lessened. The other night I was on a covert mission for the last material I needed for my final Executioner upgrade, Audio Masking, and while working my way into the settlement I was stopped to be scanned.

No big deal, I'm still clean go ahead scan me.

Oh, wait I'm here to upload a virus and their scanner can check my files....

Well the next day I found that reward again....

If guards are not in the red(?) circle on your radar they don't scan you. Either make sure they don't get in that circle or if they do don't run or jump. If they're not prescanned and you don't know where they are, jumping actually exposes you to their line of sight so if you're going through a settlement you haven't scouted don't jump. 🤷‍♂️

I think what we all did for previous elite was to focus on the wonder of being in space and after noting these things never get fixed, moving on.

Does the same idea apply for FPS hardcore suit combat?

I’m still having trouble connecting to it even before. Space gun man doesn’t matter.

Look at it this way, you got more than you bargained for with a free NK DMZ simulation. ;)

Yeah, seems a bit silly, but what'll ya do? 🤷‍♂️

Walk safely, Commander. It's silly out there. o7

stop bunny hopping! this isn't call of duty:)

it doesn't make you get there any quicker. I know what your going though thou ,we all had the same experience has you. Mine was 10k away from base. Has you guess i didn't make the jaunt. And ended up in the prison/detention centre.

Hmm forum PvP, that's a new activity, I might give it a try, I used to be quite the DC national tounament player in the day, how hard can this new sport be?

Haha. I've learned when doing those missions to unload the virus first, then scout the base, clear a path to the target, determine the best route to the target location while carrying the virus, and only then go do it.

And OP - yeah, always be careful about jumping when guards around and in a similar case, dismiss and recall ship will save you a 3km hike.

Guards never target you for a scan when your feet are not on the ground, so it is very likely that you were picked for a scan a fraction of a second before you jumped which, I agree, sucks a bit (no, it sucks a lot, in fact 🤔), but it is a lesson we all have to learn.
As it's been suggested before, try to keep guards out of the red circle in the radar, and do not bunny hop indiscriminately in a settlement.
