Taught me that the programmers can't code AI for crap. That will teach you to not jump around settlements like a lunatic, but walk like normal person.
Sure, right, but this would make people immune to scans as long as they are jumping around. It would be easy to exploit the fact that AI will wait for you to land.Taught me that the programmers can't code AI for crap.
IF THEN ELSE...
Building up your stam.... Oops, wrong game. You need mats for that.I cannot think of a single instance where I would rather run 3km than just dismiss and recall my ship.
I made the same mistake the other day. Landed at a friendly settlement, wandered into the HAB building to take a mission from the terminal, casually wandered back out to my ship not worrying about the guard scanning me.... but forgot about the illegal virus I was now carrying....ooops. Much gunfire and frantic running ensued and a very exciting time was had by all. Lesson learned. That is frustrating, but a result I think of the folks who would jump to avoid scanning.
As shared pain is lessened. The other night I was on a covert mission for the last material I needed for my final Executioner upgrade, Audio Masking, and while working my way into the settlement I was stopped to be scanned.
No big deal, I'm still clean go ahead scan me.
Oh, wait I'm here to upload a virus and their scanner can check my files....
Well the next day I found that reward again....
Yeah, I've learned to take these setbacks in my stride - if the scan happens inside a building and I have to shoot myself out, the silver lining is I conclude that I may as well start raiding the entire settlement for mats and of course the 'free' power regulator. Shouldn't have scanned me every few seconds the nosy gits.I made the same mistake the other day. Exactly this. You were supposed to be more careful when around guards. Maybe slow down? Be aware of your surroundings?
Obviously.
Seat riveting, blood pumping, adrenaline fueled excitement though, wasn’t it?So, I flew to a resort outpost and logged off last night. Today, I logged back in and found that I wasn't in the outpost anymore, it had put me out in the wilderness, about 3km away. So, I started running to get back to the settlement and my ship.
While on my way, I was jumping to reduce the time, and while I was in midair, a guard decided to scan me. Now, I had NO bounties or any other crimes to my name, I'm scrupulous about that. But, because I was in midair when he tried to scan me, it decided that falling from the sky was trying to run away, and he started attacking me. So, I ran for it. I evaded the thousand or so guards there were all over the place (never once firing on anyone), and ran to my ship. I boarded, and while it was loading, I gather they were already shooting the ship because by the time the fade to black cleared, I had no shields and was at 20% hull left. Pretty impressive weapons that can obliterate a starship in less than 5 seconds.
So, for NO REASON AT ALL, I'm out the rebuy for my Cobra IV, AND lost all my cargo (2.2 million in silver), AND lost all my exploration and biological data (another 2 million, roughly).
Now, I have plenty of cash, the losses are an annoyance, but not crippling. The Cobra is worth only around 400k to rebuy, so not terrible.
The issue I have is that I did NOTHING WRONG. I was in MIDAIR for pete's (I'm inclined to use another word here) sake, what was I supposed to DO?
The actions of the authorities in this game have been the subject of much discussion in the past. I think it's about time for another talk. Not bad enough they're scanning me every 30 seconds, now they're shooting me for no damn reason.

I've also learned to be more accepting to carry notoriety every now and then since EDO launched. I'm able to avoid it entirely when doing ship stuff - i.e. if I end up with some it was due to my decision. Oh well.
Hi MohenjoEven if they would give you a few seconds, I didn't have time even to LAND.
Also, how long will they continue to chase after you? I mean, I went and hid, but they just never stopped looking for me (and magically seemed to know where I was, regardless). At what point can I safely return to my business (or at least safely return to my ship)?
If you have disabled the settlement alarms after reactivating the power, I can think of two options as to what happened:Hi Mohenjo
Definately feel your pain... here is another slant on 'unreasonableness':
Yesterday I did my first restore mission in Colonia. Mission accomplished, settlement powered up (alarms were silenced). ''Happy as Larry'' I hopped and skipped my merry way back to my HEAVILY engineered Python parked just behind the PWR Building... lifted off, retracted my undercarriage and made it just to the rooftops of said settlement when the settlement anti-ship defences opened up on me. I had no chance to even hit boost (masslocked)..... managed to say ''Oh Dear'' or somesuch and KABOOOOM!
Several stacked but not handed-in missions all down the toilet.. AND then sent to a bloody prison hulk parsecs away from Colonia...like you ''THANKS EDO!''![]()
Good points, I have done absolutely oodles of Restore Missions back in the bubble and never had this happen to me either. I have just chatted with one of my squadron mates and he pointed out the error of my ways: (NOT the games fault at all, as you so rightly say):If you have disabled the settlement alarms after reactivating the power, I can think of two options as to what happened:
- someone else reactivated the alarms to troll you (if you were in Open)
- a bug (once I had my FC attack me out of the blue for no reason)
I would also guess that you didn't disable the settlement anti-ship turrets, then?
I always do, one can never be too cautious!
In any case, I wouldn't blame it on the gameplay itself, the mechanics seem robust enough (I've deactivated alarms hundreds of times now, and I haven't never seen this happen).
Better luck next time!

option 3 is he landed too close to the power center and was in a tress pass zone. These do not register if the settlement is offline however will become valid again once power is restored. Then rather than flying away from the settlement it seems he flew over it staying in the tress pass zone so if he hadn't been in it long enough to trigger the guns initially he was as he flew over it.If you have disabled the settlement alarms after reactivating the power, I can think of two options as to what happened:

Really? I do that all the time .... I guess they work on backup batteries.I figured you couldn't request docking at an abandoned settlement
Those turrets!3. I almost certainly hit vital infrastructure in the settlement during the clear-up phase.
Yes, I'm aware of that now. Hence the past tense and the bit in parenthesis.Really? I do that all the time .... I guess they work on backup batteries.
The only ones you can't dock at are the ones with active CZ, or without the right pad size ...
Nah, the ppl would just run in and steal their shizzle. They're not daft. The idea that they run on backup batteries while nothing else does. Like idk doors so people aren't trapped inside, is a bit ludicrous.
I mean... the npcs are pretty daft. You can run in gun down a building, run out past a guard on his way in to investigate and he'll just let you run right in out no questions asked.Nah, the ppl would just run in and steal their shizzle. They're not daft.
