A Call For Frontier To Put VR Legs On The Upcoming Road Map

What a surprise....
A thread is created making a request for a feature that was unexpectedly absent in the new DLC.
Some players post their discontent that said feature is absent.
The white knights jump in to argue with the malcontents and try to get the thread shut down.
Pretty much the same as they do on every thread where the slightest amount of discontent is raised, lol.

Separately...
+1 support (again) for this thread, and the hope that it stays open so that every player has an opportunity to post their support here at any time in the future.
And here's hoping FDev reconsider their decision in the future regarding lack of VR legs.

This is sooooo funny even if ODY is a DLC you have to still say then that VR has been reduced to 50% in Horizons. LOL the only acceptable answer is the whole game must be made VR. Then Horizons would be 100%.

Ok...

So we could say that, as stated in the dim, distant past: "Odyssey will not have VR support" and confirm that, indeed, Odyssey does not have VR support and it is time to stop insisting that it only has a partial implementation, then put this thread to bed as it is entirely superfluous?

That sounds like the ideal solution to the "debate / demand / general bleat", wouldn't you agree? :ROFLMAO:
No, we need this thread to keep going, so I feel less bad about my extended ADS whinging 🤣

Don’t except VR or any new meaningful game development, it is obvious that Elite is in Maintenance mode.

1) The “ Roadmap ?? “ Goes into 2023, you see anything exciting.
2) The updates are just bug fixes with little noticeable optimization
3) Nothing on roadmap adding anything meaningful to the game, no new ships or anything listed.
Not sure you can jump to conclusions there. Maintenance mode was also called after Horizons, and during Beyond. Maintenance mode was also called after Beyond. And then we got the Fleet Carriers expansion and later the second paid expansion to Elite. It is clear Elite was not in what you call "maintenance mode" in any of those occasions either.

4) Elite on PAPER now has been written off.
Not sure what you mean, FDEV has just recognized on PAPER Elite as a franchise that is indeed delivering material revenues for the company.

5) Only Elite income is through cosmetics sales
This is incorrect. In addition to cosmetic sales Elite continues generating revenue via sales of its base game (and the EDO dlc). Judging by the ammount of reviews left in Steam (both for the base game and dlc) the revenue from those overall is probably far from insignificant. The base game in particular probably continues to sell reasonably well.

6) Very small percentage of Frontier’s income from Elite Dangerous.
Not sure we know the exact split but FDEV is now a company with a very large portfolio anyways. See comments about your point 4) and 5) above.

Odyssey is NOT a DLC that is just new content added to Horizons, it’s a different game built off the Horizons code base.
You log into Horizons or Odyssey they are not compatible and run off different engine technology’s.

The planets use completely different rendering techniques and all look completely different, the UI is completely different, the game performance is completely different.

Driving around a planet in Horizons and getting 90fps vs Odyssey and getting 45fps feeling nauseous because of the low frame rate, how can anybody say this is superior.
There were times when I had to switch to Horizons from Odyssey because the lighting was so dark I couldn’t see without night vision, that’s not superior.

Horizons is a BRILLiANT game developed by Frontier and still IS a BRILLIANT game.

Elite Dangerous up through Horizons has inspired many events , Distant Worlds I & II, Dove Enigma, Salome, Cone Sector.

Elite Dangerous, Horizons inspired many commanders to play do things not reached in other games.

Odyssey does have the opportunity to become better than Horizons if Frontier decides to.

You've not whinged about the ADS for ages.... (apart from the last time I mentioned it in passing, of course!)
This thread just continues to give (by the shedload), so I agree, it should not be put to bed quite yet.
I'm doing 'post-ironic whinging' these days.
Being told 'no' by FDev was enough for me. Doesn't seem to have stopped this thread though (or the ship interiors ones)

to put it simply. Odd I Say feels like an imposter wearing the skin of our beloved game, It killed off a lot of the history planet-wise and DW...

This thread has been running for over a year, in spite of the hateful white knights trying to take it down..! ;)
The white knights don't bother me at all I have some of them on my ignore list. Why they are so dead set against ODY being 100% VR I have no idea VR would be great for the game all the way around.

It's not so much they're against VR. Rather, they simply can't bear the slightest amount of criticism or discontent with the game. They go out of their way to deflect, shut down and/or argue against any such sentiment. It's really quite bizarre, because most criticism is fair and reasonable and points out where FDev could improve the game. But the white knights will have none of it.
