A different discussion about currency. It's been a long time, lets poke the bear.

If you are really grateful and want to give a CMDR a 'thank you' then I think a ton of Ladvian Brandy would do nicely. Yes you have to put in some effort. That will show how grateful you are.

And it is not about the money like you said. Then why thank another player with credits anyways?

Nope.

One of the things I like about this game is the nonexistent ability to beg for credits in chat.

If I want a friend to get some money off me I go get opals... or even better, teach them how to.

The problem kinda is that the guy who you wish to reward has to put in that effort as well.

Like if a trader wishes to pay for a bodyguard, the bodyguard has to swap ships, as he most likely doesn't gimp his build with collectors and cargo racks.

It being a non-free game with a older playerbase and a high skill floor makes it pretty much immune to 12 year old beggars anyway. I've never seen anyone beg for opals so I don't expect anyone would beg for credits.

As for the other point, not everyone wants to mine. Mining is a playstyle that exists and is well rewarded under the current mechanics. This is about rewarding other types of playstyle that aren't rewarded under current mechanics.

I got rescued by a Hull Seal recently and kinda wish I'd been able to give them something for the rescue.. Enough Credits for a tank of fuel or a cheapy bobblehead or something.. I know they do it for the fun, but when they come rescue you when you have a 1% hull, I think they deserve something..

Maybe FDev could give them a custom decal or paintjob? Imagine if the Rats or Seals turned up in a fully liveried ship...

Credits are double dumb.. they're meaningless in game and it opens the doors to real world problems.

Better do it in arx somehow. An arx transfer / thankyou limpet would be good. With all the safeties and sanity checks possible (session/daily limits or a waiting period before spend is customary). Just have fixed amounts with some sort of comms message card, you could have one for distress, mining etc, and just fix the amount relative to the given player somehow. Lol, thankyou arx.

Credit inflation makes this whole topic moot, IMO.

Credits transfers could no longer be easily abused because credits are no longer a compelling reward.

Credit transfer would be an easier and more "realistic"way to pay friends for their help & protection when mining or running a mission etc. than poop-a-scooping valuable cargo.
