Howdy! Been playing for over a year now (off and on) and I wanted to share some ideas I've had. I understand that I'm not the only one to mention some of these things and I don't take credit for what the community has been saying since I before I was even aware of Elite Dangerous. With legal out of the way, let me tell my incredibly unique and totally original, (not to mention genius!), ideas that I've had! Hold on, let me sniff my own ego for second.... hard sniff RIGHT, here we go! kek
Engineering - Yeah, I know. Talked to death and this old horse steak has been tenderized to the point that whatever could've been described as a creature once belonging to the equine family is now naught but atomized frustration and wishful thinking. That said, engineering still needs work. Less grind, better rewards. Make the first tier a purely credit based restriction. Charge what you think is fair, but give the player a REASON to go out and gather materials for better tiers. Let them ENHANCE their weapon/module/suit/etc by paying an Engineer to make some minor tweaks to it. This also gives them a chance to play around with various builds and a taste of what experimentals can offer. All levels of Engineering should be a flat rate increase, not random. Thankfully, I wasn't around for the start of Horizons and so was spared the worst of it. But hard earned materials still get wasted by having the meter fill a random amount. Very unfair, very disappointing, very, very, very wrong!
Canopy Upgrades - This one is a bit different. No idea if anyone ever thought to put this idea out there, but I can't be the only one to notice Lakon's affinity for wildly unsafe cockpit design. Great for exploration, but a bit jarring when held up to critical thinking (or overthinking, really). Why not fix that? Have a new module or add a new life support upgrade. Add plating over the windows and use a "camera suite" to allow a perfect view out of the cockpit (like the plating wasn't even there. Maybe with some sort of culling?). This would add mass to the ship as well as armor value. When damaged enough, the display inside the ship would shut down forcing the player to fly by instruments. This is feasible, if not exactly perfect. We have a 3d mini map that shows where enemies, allies, and materials are. There is the Nav panel that allows signal tracking for ships/ beacons/ materials/ stations/ systems etc, destination designation, and system/ galaxy mapping. A compass that shows target alignment with relevant info, comms, and your ship panel. Think of how intense that would be! Blind, panicked, and flying only by what your ship tells you. Terrifying and fun! Further, perhaps certain effects like better hardpoint accuracy, more efficient this or that, and so on could added to further increase the usefulness of this upgrade.
Ship Interiors - You already know what this is. If an army of people screaming about it doesn't get results, neither will my one lone voice screaming into the Black make any difference. But should it ever happen, I would suggest having a Captain's Cabin. Bed, desk, workbench (for pinned blueprints), interactable things, etc. I know other games do it, so what. I don't play those other games. I play Elite.
I know I'm a nobody and my ideas are far from unique. I don't expect to get what I want and I'm not gonna sit and cry in my pity pool over a computer game. But I wanted to post this because, well, I do LOVE this game! Those opening hours still stick with me! The experiences I've had since have been a mixed bag but overall, it's still a gripping experience to immerse myself in this title. As a kid, I used to dream about flying amongst the stars. I still do. Elite has a long way to go to be something truly representative of what it can truly be, however. I also feel like I should mention, people are leaving Elite. Too many false hopes, broken promises and community mismanagement. This is not meant to be a tirade on the state of the game, just few suggestions on features I'd like to see. But like I said, I love Elite. It has so much to offer and deserves better than it gets, both from management and players alike.
These are just my simple opinions, please don't take them seriously. I assure you, my whims do not have the power to change the very fabric of space and time. My opinion is not hiding under your bed waiting for you to fall asleep and then eat your Lunchable. I am not here to ruin YOUR enjoyment of anything. Thanks and O7 commanders!
