A founders point of view. Three Days mining then from Startup to dead in 60 sec. This cant be right..

Dont know about Clipper, or Python but my Cutter with class 8 prismatics can easily deal whatever those ships can offer.
Completely doable, I have a python with 5 prismos and can deal with anything. It's fully engineered, but I think that's beside the point.
It comes down to experience, there's so many ways to avoid combat, especially from npcs.
Players just get stunned and panic because they get caught off guard. If they followed simple advice of how to avoid or behave in certain situations, forums would have a lot less of this kind of threads.

I use this Clipper for core mining. Almost 600MJ of absolute shields with 4A prismatics
However that Clipper's problem are not the shields, but the rather low damage output combined with rather average to low shields.
I can usually go through a pair of pirates with Kraits and still have a ring left after the fight, but with 3 pirates in medium ships, things can get nasty i have to boost out of the fight

A Python can get close to 900 MJ using 3A prismatics, but using 3 shield boosters (or 775 using only 2 boosters)
And it has better firepower to complement those better shields too..

If for some reason you re-log into the game while located in a planetary ring, with goodies other than limpets in your hold, the pirates WILL spawn and be all over you. IF you can't run or fight (usual), then dropping a few tons of cargo will stop the pirates from further attack as they scramble to pick up the ransom you've paid; often with such verbals as: 'Ahh just what I needed/expected/wanted, excellent' etc. etc.

I am founder and from there on in I have dropped in and out of Elite dangerous over the years or as frustration dictates. My curiosity was raised earlier in the year with the announcement of odyssey and I decided I should start playing a bit more.
Other than the usual grind starting to bore me, getting killed two minutes entering a community goal system whilst trying to get to a station by another player, I thought I would try some mining that’s got to be a relatively peaceful and thought provoking past time. So kitted out for mining I have spent three session over three days mining not visiting a station because I want some entertainment not spending half my time looking at hyperspace (I played the original Elite and hyperspace lasted two seconds). Today I started Elite and straight away pirates appear start attacking me and I can’t jump away and end up dead. Now I can deal with these sorts of situations and do not mind the consequences it’s what the game is about. If you are in a combat zone you start far enough away from any adversaries to get prepared and your mind set is as such.. When your mining your mind set is not the same, just give me a minute or two to get orientated and organised what have I cargo have I got what are my resources how is the ship configured before confronting me with an all or nothing situation. All modern combat games have a lead in, you have to get to the area of confrontation etc... to hit me straight in like this within seconds well GIVE ME A CHANCE!

This left me feeling dejected not a feling of having had some entertainment. I have gone from relaxed and happy to my god this has no lead in. So instead of having half an hour’s entertainment I am on here pointing out how Elite Dangerous instantly left me with a bad feeling. Now I am going to go and do something else to try and lift my spirits back up.

Hi A300, I have been having a similar experience over the last couple of years and contrary to Yamiks excellent video.
It is not the community that keeps bringing Me back it is simply playing the game, I wish it was driven by Dev narrative and not personal narrative but it is what it is.
This is not a slanderous remark against the community as most people are very supportive.

I think it's been said but anytime or anywhere you drop into a ring a few bandits will appear, you can't odds it.
If you log out from a ring and log back in be prepared to start boosting right of the bat.

Personally
If it's a ring I have previously scanned I come in / fly in with the hotspot directly between me and the planet (obviously slightly above or below), then drop 100km short and boost towards it. Depending on your ship and max speed it can take around 20-30km to drop them (the bandits), occasionally they are persistent and when you start to prospect after you think they've gone it's worth still being aware of your radar for 5 minutes or so.

Another bonus of this is that you may find Core roids :) before you get anywhere near the hotspot and after you have passed it you can target the planet and that way you won't cover ground already travelled.
At least that's my way.
I've done it to. Losing things by any means, mistakes or unknowns is very painful as it feels like wasted time.

All.

This thread has been an interesting read. So I will firstly quote my original post least things go off topic.

" Now I can deal with these sorts of situations and do not mind the consequences it’s what the game is about. "

That said I see that views are mixed. Some feel its not a problem stop complaining. Some feel its not a problem but it should be better. Elite dangerous from the early days had requests for content and storyline which its now seems to be full off. On reflection since 2013 some of the aspect of the game remain unchanged and are in need of attention. I look forward to seeing Odessy being an evolution of the game and not just more content.

Regards.

This game, for all of its technical brilliance has some shockingly poor random encounter generation along with the dire dialogue is certainly not in the top 1% of all encounter generators. ;-)

the fact that they always appear like clockwork no matter where you are, given the mind-bendingly insane vastness of space is just a pathetic mechanic.

This has been my main issue with it... Basically check list programming. I remember back to a time when it seemed like you were cargo hauling and NPC's interdicted you all the time, like every 2-4 jumps. It wasn't hard to run away/defeat the interdiction game/kill them when you drop, but it was damn annoying to have it happen as much.

Pirates should be a chance encounter, and because you are blowing up roids and generally shooting lasers and sending bursts of energy when scanning, you should be detectable/findable by any player or NPC. That would put the dangerous in Elite in a way that the "random' encounter that is generated nearly every time you drop never will. But that would mean that counter measures and strategies be developed to make the game more fun and interesting which would go against the design philosophy of "A mile wide and an inch deep"...

As an aside, if you mine in a high security system, you will likely have police drop in and not pirates.

Hmmm! Can they deal with the wing of four (three Vultures and an FDL) that sometimes drop in to check out my cargo hold? I can't see either of those ships lasting one minute.
Yes they can(escape at least if can't win fight) . I never lost ship in mining.
Let me surprise you now:
Never had a situation where I didn't kill pirates with this setup. I decided that I will not g5 mining Clipper, no need to, can handle whatever.
Again I don't mine in Res zones, so didn't encounter elite wing of four ships. And if I do, my builds can run away fast enough.

Edit: also I dont have much patience for mining, after 1 hour I have enough of it, so my builds don't need big cargo space.
I drop in, kill pirate(s) , mine, then I go sell cargo, everything around 1 hour 30 min with all traveling.
Works for me
