The ships log says I was at the bridge of my Orca with an Earl Grey tea, hot, scanning systems and bringing a famous explorer to his destination.
In reality the famous explorer and me were swapping stories, sipping his fine Jameson Bow Street while I was copying the road to riches data.
Over 800M credits in my account, a Cobra III, Asp X, Python and Anaconda in my hangar, things were going pretty smooth.
And then it hit me

This is boring . . .

I'm not exploring. CTRL-C CTRL-V is not exploring. If this was my job, I would be looking for another one.

Moments later I was in my Sidewinder skipping the training missions.

I threw away the training wheels as soon as I could, leaving protected space with only a few 100k cr. Doing odd jobs trading and missions until I could afford a DSS and started mapping planets.

I am now in my trusted Cobra Mk III, equiped with a A FSD, DSS, Scarab and wake scanner doing passenger missions and exploring on the way.
Got an invite from Felicity and saving up for a Dolphin.

And I'm having fun and looking forward to make the next step forward. Because it's not the destination but the journey. Every explorer knows that.

No longer will I reset the mission board or force materials to respawn. Not only is this an abuse of game mechanics, it's also boring.

Good for you! And each to their own. Peronsally, I couldn't do it. I've invested too much time in getting where I am (which isn't meta/hardcore/triple elite/fleet carrier owning by any means).

The one aspect that would really gut me, would be re-amassing all the mats I have.

Oh, I wouldn't have done it if I had a fleet carrier, but I've only been playing the game for a month now, so it wasn't a big loss . . .

Quick update:

got the Dolphin, and unlocked Elvira Martuuk
started the FSD range upgrade there but ran out of chemical processors
went back to home system and got an AspX
will do some trading and passenger missions to improve my relationship with the factions
will acquire some manufactured materials and work on the FSD range upgrade

Question: is there any way to show only F, G and K stars on the map?

Ok, now I feel stupid . . .

I never realized that was a scroll down menu, only saw the first 3 lines

Anyway, let me tell you what I have been up to.

some trading and passenger missions, that improved my relationship with the factions
didn't get nearly enough manufactured materials though, so no progress on the FSD range upgrade
did some SRV surface mining, but the controls on the buggy are pretty awful so I remapped them to the numeric keypad
read up on HGE farming and how to use collector limpets
right now I could
- continue the FSD range upgrade, I think I have the ingredients now
- or go to a Li Yong-Rui system and buy a Python

Decisions, decisions . . .

Couple of questions:

did anybody ever make a standard key map file for keyboard and mouse?
why concentrate on high population booming systems for HGE farming? do other systems generate other materials?

You know https://edrefcard.info/ yet? If not, go to the list of bindings, then use your browser's search function to look for "Keyboard".

Or just have it generate the keymap for your current bindings.

Thanks for the tip, I'll look into that. But actually I was looking for some standard configuration that most people be comfortable with.

Trying to use the supercruise assist trick but it looks complicated.

Can supercruise assist be mapped to a key?

yep, i map j - full star jump, k - just local super cruise, l - landing gear

edit , oh I find this useful, x - full stop, c -25%, v-50% , b - 100% thruster settings. hit the b key to get to full throttle for cruise and jump to activate.

Thanks for the tips, but that's not what I meant.
At 0:23 in the video you see him engaging the supercruise assist on the 1 screen. Perhaps he does that to show how it's done and it can be mapped. Perhaps it can't.

Anyway, went to Elvira Martuuk to finish the FSD range upgrade. I thought I had to roll the dice three times and perhaps nine on lvl 5. Bad luck so I had to get extra supplies.
Off to Sol to show off my upgraded Dolphin.

BTW - no SCA cannot be mapped - he enabled SCA but he kept off-course so that SCA didn't engage until he pitched up to centre the destination.

I think it's on a similar level as boosting inside the station like a madman and then enabling the DC, which is apparently superhumanly good at braking, steering and generally not hitting the back wall of the station.

So I went to Sol, Abraham Lincoln station and turned in my exploration data. Didn't expect the red carpet but they barely gave me the time off day.

Scanned for the Voyager and payed it a visit. Took me a while but I had some time to waste. Bumped into it and bent the main antenna. Sorry for that, surely the insurance will take care of it . . .

Using SCA to do an overspeed exit works quite often, and doesn't work other times leaving you to loop of shame.
Just like driving about like a lunatic can get you places fast, except when you get wrapped around a lamp post.

Remember when I decided to head off to a Li Yong-Rui system and buy a hardly ever used Python? I never got around to that.

I was on my way, only had to finish a couple of errands and than this happened . . .

Wait what ? ? ?

A trit loop right next to my home system ! ! ! What a stroke off luck.

Yes please, fill her up please.

So I never visited Li Yong-Rui because in the time it would take to go get that second hand Python over here, I could make more money running trit.
Got the Python by cashing in everything I had, even had to transplant the FSD drive from my AspX and filled the Python up with cargo holds. Barely covered the rebuy cost.
The money started rolling in, over 11M credit per run, around 150M per hour.

So now I have the Python well equipped and 350M cr in my account.

But what I found out is, this trit loop never showed up on https://eddb.io/trade/loops
So when everybody is falling over each other to get to that distant crowed trit loop, there might be an ignored one just around the corner.

Absolutely love it, and all power to you. I much prefer not using out of game resources, as it's really just a shortcut to an endgame which might not be any more fun than the bit I'm doing at the moment. Love it.

Plan: going on a 5k ly mission to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where you lot have gone before!

If it's not too late - you can keep those AFMUs switched off if you don't need them (which will be basically all of the time...) and then replace the powerplant with a 3A. Less mass and better thermal efficiency, that will make scooping less painful: https://s.orbis.zone/7ocu

Thanks for the tip. I didn't take off with the optimal configuration, but I could fit in a 4A powerplant.

Since most players will go toward the center or take the Colonia direction, I decided to go to the end or our arm and plotted a route to Ploea Eur.

Plotted a route over F, G and K systems scanning every system and mapping every terraformable, earth like or water world unless they are wayyyyy out there. It will take a while but that's what explorers do.

I'm over halfway there now, and haven't even scratched the ship.

Ok, reached my destionation in the Ploea Eur area. Ship is holding up nicely and I made some discoveries.

I'll bring some cargo space next time.

Using Fox's guide and I hope it's still up to date, so going back to the Procyon system to turn in my exploration data.
