A Glimmer of Hope

Why do people keep saying performance is "resolved?" It isn't.
Who said "performance" is resolved? That is a figment of an overactive imagination for sure! One particular issue has been resolved, the post you responded to said just that...
Also any sane VR user would tell you that 40fps for VR is extremely bad regardless of what your personal tolerances are.
Would you define "sanity" first? There appears to be very little around these parts 🤷‍♂️

You're away you can engage in conversation without being snarky, right?

Didn't Fdev say that about Update 8 all the way up until it didn't?

You'll forgive me if I'm a bit wary on trusting the promises of FDev.

Frontier did say that they were working on optimizations for Update 8, but they never said that was going to be the complete fix. And Update 8 did bring framerate improvements to station concourses, as well as eliminating the stuttering at planetary bases.

Yesterday on the live stream, Arthur and Sally reiterated over and over again that the focus for Update 9 is "performance, performance, performance" with other lesser issues being put on hold until the performance issues are resolved. To me, this suggests that Update 9 is going to be the performance-focused patch we've been hoping for.

We'll see soon enough.

Good for you but some of us have middle range graphic cards (rtx 2060 for me) and even on medium settings and 1080p settlements are at 30fps with drops to 28-26fps quite often which is not playable and definitaly not enjoyable.

A 2060 is mid range? Jeebus, only just bought one! I was hoping being an owner of a RTX card would at least put me in the slightly above average category for once in my life!

Anyway, i'm getting 45-50, even 60 FPS fairly stably at settlements on High/Ultra settings.

The difference we are getting with the same cards is crazy. How are your CPU and RAM?

Most of the time, yes, but normally choose to respond to like with like, that normally gets a similar response to this ;)

The expansion has issues yet, and it is likely to continue to do so for quite some time, I don't recall a single claim that it is "fixed" overall, just comments on issues being addressed, and sometimes even being an improvement.

Just like I'm seeing with my RTX 2060 card.

It is important to say I am on a laptop. i7 10750h, 16gb ram, 1tb ssd.
I actually followed the instruction in the forum to delete the frontier graphic settings folder and my fps is now 40-65 in most settlements on high except some of the largest settlements (one type ot tourist and one type of extraction) where it drops to 30-32.
Still I am playing newer games with better graphics with solid 60fps on the highest settings.

Ah, that's closer to what I expect.

And yeah, i think most agree the power that needs to be thrown at the game to make it work normally is disproportionate to the result.

Actually it's not even mid range. It's not even the current generation.
The 20xx cards were released 3 years ago and the 2060 was the slowest card of the series.

Doesn't change the fact that it should run Odyssey much better than it does and that hardware prices are completely nuts though.

I own a RTX 3070 and I would say that's mid range, considering that 3080 and 3090 are top range.

Considering the 2060 cost me an arm and a leg its sad.

Fortunately it does run Odyssey well.

i play more or less every night, without steam!
But nevertheless, each and every night, i encounter game/mission breaking bugs!

That sucks. I haven't encountered any nasty bugs except falling through the floor when exiting terminals fast. Done loads of missions, not one bug with those.

ofc, the one dude who never encounters any bugs... yeah sure.

do me a favor and play in a team.

Or take some digital espionage mission or theft mission, and once you landed leave the station (in case we triggered an alarm, and no, no covert assignment!!!) and come back to try to finish it.

Scavengers 0/0 to kill in a settlement raid.

I tried each and every mission, solo and in a team. Support and kill missions are the most reliable. The rest not so. Even in salvage mission when openning the cago racks will ctd my teamate...

I fell through a station floor sometime last week which was fun. I've seen a few bugged missions but not to any great extent 🤷‍♂️

You literally quoted a post where i actually list a bug i've faced.

But if you don't want to beleive me when i've said i haven't encountered any bugs doing missions then that's your problem. I haven't. Its been pretty smooth sailing.

I'd love to play more in a team but its rare for me. I did wing up with someone by chance last week. We bumped into each other at the same settlement with the same mission but from different factions. So we shared our missions, raided the base, and left, all without a problem.

Sorry, maybe i'm just luckier than you are.

don't get me wrong, i still like playing. Otherwise i would not return nearly every day. And yes not every session concludes into an error. But for me at least the errors happen so often that i startet to distrust any functionality. Another example: We still need to relog to pay our fines via an interstellar factor. There are so many not fully working mechanics that its sometimes very cumbersome to play the game.

I hate to say it, but i haven't had that bug either. I've paid off fines (or bounties maybe? Are bounties ok for you?) by interstellar factor twice in the last couple of weeks without relogging.

Me neither. Doesn't mean those bugs don't happen for other people. I guess we are both lucky.

Some bugs just can't happen to me because I don't play with others which, again, doesn't mean they aren't there.

Also, sometimes I don't even really notice minor bugs. As long as they don't stop me from playing it's possible that I run into something without bothering about it being broken and I quickly forget that it wasn't working 100% as intended.

Yeah, i'm not saying he hasn't had the bug, just we are having different experiences.
