A little Clarity

I think the storage tab is there as a step towards combining EDH and EDO, not as a reminder of anything. It’s be like saying the transfer tab is there to remind someone they can’t afford a FC. That said, I’m with you on the Arx. I’m not spending any money on in game cosmetics for a game where I don’t know whether they’re going to bring EDO to console or cancel it along with EDH. No more money from me for the arx store until a lot of this uncertainty it cleared.
Till the mysterious oddysee compatibility mode is dissapeared, there are tiny hopes of an console release, my greatest hope is they leave the old gen and bring Odyssee to the current gen.

It looks like you have a current gen console. In any case, current gen accounts for just a tiny bit of all consoles out there. Would you say that with the same energy if you only had a last gen console?

I agree 100%. I can't on good conscience continue to invest in an account if it's going to be a dead-end account.

On the OP's original topic, I think that they don't have anything to share is because (and this may be obvious to some) they stopped all EDO work on console. You can't share news on something not in active development. If only as a last resort, they should allow for console accounts to be transferred with all items/progress from console accounts to PC accounts. I would certainly like to continue my journey on PC if I could keep my ranks, progress, hell, my Cobra Mk IV lol, etc. I'M NOT grinding again my around 6 year progress.

I completely agree with the transfers. Hopefully, it doesn't come to that, but if it does they should offer more than just credit transfers. I'm also a little unclear as they say they only allow one transfer. Well, I transferred from PS to Xbox last year, before news broke that they were delaying consoles indefinitely. So, since I've had one transfer already, does that mean someone in my position can't do another? Hopefully it'll be a moot point, but something they'll definitely need to consider if they can't bring EDO to consoles.

they stopped all EDO work on console.

All improvements to EDO on PC are applicable to console, in case you are unaware they use the same CPU and GPU types as PC's, so improvement on performance on PC should translate directly to consoles, they did release a Horizons/Console patch the other week also, so unless you have info that's not available to anyone else that's just incorrect!

Nope I have both of them. But according to the pc comanders there is a huge possibility that this game wouldn’t run on the old gen, and in the meantime it seems to be the most possible way. And therefore, in the gamingindustrie it’s a normal way, when a game evolving that the old gens wouldn’t get all new features, that was always the natural way. As an actual example, No mans sky, the origin of this game is on the old gen consoles, but in the meantime, there is a version with better visuals etc which are hits only the next gen version. And there wasn’t so much people moaning about this. Elite is in this case very special. Honest opinion, elite feels now on the old gens really clunky and stutterish, it would be the best way for them. And at the moment the availability of the ps5 has a huge push up. It’s a matter of time when all ps4 cmdrs will get a new ps5 or the Xbox guys do the same.

People who have no clue and are just guessing based on zero knowledge, I wouldn't write off the possibility that it will run on old gen consoles with reduced graphics settings, at 4 Tflops it's GPU performance is probably on a par with a RTX 1000 series GPU's and there are many PC players still using the RTX 1000 series video cards on PC, so it certainly won't run anything on high settings but I expect there will be a recommended settings advisory for last gen consoles, but having said that, yes I am just another player so my opinion holds no more weight than other players.

You bring up a good point and one I think we forget sometimes is that the improvements they make to PC help put EDO in a better place for a port over to consoles. I sometimes think it's in the back of their minds that they're going to do that, but then you look at the version on console and it says something like "Odyssey compatibility" (or something along those lines). Also, I've seen a lot of console cmdrs complaining that an EDO update broke something in EDH. The more I think about it, the more I think that's actually a good thing. It means there's some intermingling of EDH/EDO code, right? I'm not a programmer, but if they really are two completely separate entities then an update on one shouldn't affect the other it seems. Anyway, we can speculate all we want, but that's all it'll be until they come out and tell us directly.

There's plenty that's common between the two, but there are still also unanswered questions about the PC version that would be nice to know. For instance will a H CMDR be able to see an on foot O CMDR on a H planet, or will they be forever separated by instancing? How is that going to work? We can only wait and see, and that's the only thing we can do at the moment!

Although I concur that current PC work on EDO could be applicable to future console adaptation, releasing maintenance patches on Horizons doesn't equal to "EDO work on console", unless you know something we don't. Hell, that's the problem, nobody knows anything! That's what gives space to these speculative discussions.

Was meant as bitter joke. I know, that this is not a reminder... just bitter sarcasm

People honestly think that Odyssey will not be released on consoles? Asking for a friend...

Have to admit buddy not that optimistic, communication went from still planned for "old gen" consoles to plans not changed (but no further info or clarity) to copy and paste "No News" replies. Generally I'm a positive guy but the fact community engagement is down and were not even getting the "No News" anymore is leaning me towards a less prosperous future could be wrong though and if I am Frontier are doing a poor job of "damage control" if this is the case. Off topic a little but all consoles are in the same boat, I mean where's the PS5 stream not even a hint since it was mentioned last year catch ya o7

Whether people think it will or it won't it's all speculation until FDEV confirms.
Wasn't really the question. I'm asking if people honestly believe that Odyssey will never be released on consoles. I've seen a lot of people post that exact thing, and I'm simply curious if they actually believe the things they type on the Internet or if this is just their frustration speaking. Well, my friend is...

TBH I was skirting the question a bit because, as you've said, people post that exact thing and this is a good way to stir up the bee's nest.

Same here. No more money from me until something changes.

  • No Arx for either my PS5, or 2 PC accounts.
  • I have an Epic account that I'd planned on purchasing Odyssey for - that's currently on hold.
  • I have previously bought FDev's other games on different platforms. That's on hold. No JWE2 for example.

- I am also limiting my play time as I don't want to waste any more time on Elite on PS5 if there's no real future in it. (no native version, no Odyssey, no Cross Play)

Not expecting any of this to make any difference to any decisions or lack of announcements (or announcements about announcements), but I can't in good conscience continue to support a company that currently makes very little effort to support me as a console CMDR and customer.
