A masterclass of fake game design = Void opals by FDEV

Ok. All of your criticisms are valid, but if it upsets you so much why don't you just play a different game? Or just stop playing this one?
Not all. Mainly whining about the long overdue correction to the stupid payouts. If there's a problem it's that the payouts went so long unchecked. I'm not sure how mining could be more exciting tbh, it is literally digging holes and looking for loot.

Meanwhile, Smuggling has been non-functional since well before FCs went live and cannot turn a profit, and Tissue Sampling is still completely busted despite it being the feature of a recent galnet article.

So... join the queue and wait your turn?

Stop following the biggest dollar and do what you want to. Void Opals are supposed to be aquired by people who love exploration and mining. It's just a soon to be corrected balance issue that they are worth so much.

Damn, why is it a radical idea that people should play games for fun. You decided to turn this into a job and so it was terrible as jobs tend to be.

There's an awful lot to critique fdev for. I think most veteran players just realize that it's futile to get emotional and care about it. It's not gonna change and it's unlikely to get better. You just deal with it. Because the truth is, any comparable competitor has failings or shortcomings too..often in ways that just dont work to create an overall better experience or exactly the same gameplay despite even the most pessimistic views of Elite.

Players playing the game "wrong" is not due to players being stupid or masochistic. It's almost completely due to players trying to work around the problems critiqued above in a way that costs them the least time doing something they dont want to do. The solution is not "dont play that way", but in hoping and wishing and suggesting ways fdev can fix the game so that the time spent in the game is filled with rewarding things being done during it (not just credits, but tangible changes resulting from your actions). You need to make it more attractive for players to play the game the "right" way in order to stop players from having such a pull to play it the "wrong" way.

I don't understand these rants. I guess I don't understand the 'problem'.

I guess FDev are to blame for not nerfing ridiculous void opal payouts from the start. Because now we seem to have a large % of self-entitled players who only bought this game with the I-want-all-the-best-stuff-TODAY mindset after reading a 12-months-old Reddit guide to getting a Corvette in a week!? It's funny how we never see rants from hardcore sci-fi/space obsessives, only players who apparently know coding and could (apparently) easily make their own more glorious version of this game.

I've bought tons of games to be massively disappointed - Fallout 76, Forza Motorsport 7, Space Engineers, to name a few of my (personal) biggest disappointments. BUT, that's MY problem. I get a refund or just don't play anything from that developer again. What I hate about a game, many others love. Elite Dangerous is no different. It doesn't make the game "bad game design" just because YOU don't like something. Maybe the design is exactly how it's meant to be, how could we know? Of course Elite has some bugs that we'd all like to see fixed, and quicker than FDev appear to be presently addressing them. But it doesn't make the game s**t just because it doesn't do what YOU want it to do.

If one element of the game makes you this angry and bitter, just don't play the game!

I don't get this either. I have been playing fairly solidly for about 5 weeks now. I have a nicely fitted Annie, an engineered DBX (Yay 63ly jump range), and I'm about 30mil short of buying and fitting out the Corvette I just spent 5 days unlocking. That all seems like an amazingly short span of time to me, like stupidly short, and most of my money came from mining LTD's and selling them for like, 300k per ton (Yes I know, stupidly low prices, but I mine 25 jumps away from any decent market where I don't get bothered by anyone, even NPC's) and I've had an absolute blast. That said, I played EVE Online for 12 years, and that game has real time skill training that can literally take 4 months for a single skill to train, so I guess I have a tad more patience than these "GIMMEGIMMEGIMMEIMUSTHAVEITNOWPLSGIMMEGIMME" children I see posting ragequit threads because they couldn't earn 6 billion credits in a week.

The problem which OP have is bases on one simple thing: Players learned just one way how to get money in this game. Yes, it very likely is (was) the most easy/fast and boring? (I think yes unless were minority which really like mining) way, but they learned nothing about how this game works, and now bcs rebalancing (which sadly was absolutely needed) are understandably frustrated.

I have one friend who tried the game.
He got mad too.
What a big surprise!
No, seriously, i don't know what happened.
Well I was trying to find someone to play with me. In our place we have weekly "Game Night" - virtual due to the lockdown. It is a group of game enthusiast gathering together, talking about the game, and trying it - there are games people play together after this introduction... When I mentioned ED they just gone quiet and ask if I am joking... They know the game and it is off the table because it's grindy and boring and to repetitive so nobody took my suggestion seriously, they simply have no time for what ED offers (grind I mean)...

This game is built on the reality that most players are not happy with it because fdev made it clear from the beginning that they were going to try and make a game that drew in all types fo gamers. Single player gamers. Multiplayer gamers. Pvp players. Players who wanted casual gaming. Players who wanted an mmo rpg. Players who wanted to play a story. So this means compromises. And all compromise means is nobody gets what they want.

The problem with "rebalancing' is that Fdev is not interested in solving the problem. The problem is, playing the game 'the right way" isn't the most efficient nor is it a fun way to accomplish any given task in the game. Obviously players are going to look for a way around doing that every time. Not just the instant gratification junkies - which is an additional cancer to playerbases that just distracts us all from righteous ranting.

rebalancing is destined to keep failing in this game until the barriers/sinks used in that balancing are actually meaningful fun gameplay mechanics.

Dont believe me, just stick around. Many of us have been playing for about 6 years now and have seen many rebalances. It's not a mystery why it never accomplishes it's goal.

EvilWinkle, this is good idea to start counter-project. What ED really needs is competition, rival game of the same kind, or similar. I would rather invest my money in such
a project then in ARX. If many players of ED would invest small amount, maybe would be enough to start something.
