A miners life for me

Just made just shy of 9 mil in a 45 minute haz rez mining run (minerals + bounties - repairs). Had an NPC in one fighter, and my BF in the other. Quite fun, though not for the faint of heart. Some very valuable rocks out there, like this beauty:

Edit: actually, guess it was about an hour. There was some combat before that first rock.

Spent a couple hours in a Major Reserve Metallic HiRes tonight, in my home system and popped a couple of 40% Panite asteroids...

Total haul in my 512 ton cargo mining cutter, Mesabi Miner, between selling directly, and completing missions with what I mined was around 35 million in just over two hours.

Beautiful.

It was very enjoyable and relaxing. I didn't set out for a big haul, but it just ended up that way when I was done. I know a lot of people ignore the lower value stuff upto and including Osmium, and sometimes higher, but there are missions to source silver that pay around 200k for 6 units, and the Osmium missions...2million for 27 of them! Some faction at my home station wanted to pay me 500k for 8 tons of gold, so OK, I'll source it for you. I generally don't pick up the missions before hand because I don't do a lot of purpose or goal driven mining. I just look at the board and see what the factions are wanting, and if I just mined something that'll help them out, I'll gladly help them. I have more credits than god, so I just do it for fun.

The system I'm operating in now has an industrial station, so they don't generally offer mining missions. They DO, however, pay ~120k per ton for painite. Pristine metallic haz res right next to the station. Perfect for when I feel like that particular brand of hair on fire (especially in multicrew- less wait time traveling)

On the subject of multicrew (and SLFs in general):
I've been doing some haz res mining with my BF flying a fighter (multicrew). There are often quiet moments when we're not under attack, and I'm either just mining a rock or firing prospectors to find the next target. During these moments, he doesn't really have anything to do other than wait for more pirates to show up. It would be really nice if SLF weapons could damage rocks like a mining laser (similar to how the mining lance is a weapon and a mining too). Even if it was a very slow way to mine, he could fly around chipping fragments off rocks to help scout out good ones, and / or help me chip fragments off the good rocks quicker once we found one. Again, wouldn't have to be terribly fast. It would give him something to do in those slow moments, and expand the non-combat utility of SLFs.

That's good for Major.

This is one reason why I would like FD to provide the material composition of rings the way they do with landable planets. As it could make even depleted rocky rings become a hub of activity, say if it was 10% selenium. I'd like to see more variety in mining locations. Which is why I'm very disappointed that Metal rich rings rendered irrelevant for mining by 3.0
