A Novice’s 1st Trip South.

Wooden sailing ships were careened, ( thats laid over almost so the masts being horizontal, Deck hatches sealed. ) even the largest ships were cleaned in this way away from port, up some distant estuary. They were pretty resourceful back then. Also hull maintenance was undertaken this way.

As for particular granules stripping the paint from your time displaced space ship, It’s not ! The paint is getting removed by Quantum displacement fields, at the Plank level! I am surprised the stripping is at the front, it ought to be from the back moving to the front! Any school child would know this! That last bit is debatable..

Do not be so hasty to judge your predecessors. Some may have been cherry-pickers, sure, but not all of them. You do not know their motives, nor the equipment that may have been using. Many early explorers had just primitive equipment: a scanner that only scanned out to 500 Ls, or perhaps even no long-range scanner at all and they had to find all their planets using parallax. Or they may have been badly damaged and in a rush to get back to starport. Or maybe they had a cranky tourist onboard and needed to hurry back to their point of origin before their passenger gave up in disgust.
I stumbled across an already discovered Earth-like on Friday, it had been discovered but not mapped so my guess is an older discovery and they only had the basic kit. It was only 300 ls from the arrival point too.

Wasn't far from the bubble either....
