I had previously voted "Yes" for the key but I would like to retract that vote (I know it's not physically possible) because after some more thought I don't see the point. Half the reason I wanted the steam key was to be able to track how much time I spent playing the game but also flaunt to my friends that I was playing ED in the hopes they'd try it out as well. The other half was me just wanting the steam overlay so I didn't have to alt-tab every time someone messaged me.

After adding ED to my non-steam game library and loading it up, I quickly found that I hated the overlay and it broke the immersion so much that I have done a complete 180 and feel there is very little reason for the Frontier Devs/employees to look into providing steam keys. There are much better things to spend their time on.

Steam really ain't all that and a bag of potato chips. I'm quite happy with the current launcher and it's useful links to ED related things (forums, sales, etc.).

I voted - dont care. Because at the moment there is no added functionality

If the Steam users get some functionality we do not. Than , maybe

You know Steam is not that hot. Its good think Frontier got the game there for boost in player numbers. But its always better to have game independant from Steam

I find this thread incredible!
I own elite and have almost all my other games on steam so of course I want a steam key why would I want to keep Elite standalone - surprised the developers have not done this immediately they moved it to steam..........

I also voted YES.
I would love to link my ED account with Steam i use Steam daily and it would be nice to have it in the libary
Tho i wonder if we ever get an anwser on this

Yes!

I hate the fact that I need multiple applications to handle my games. Origin for Battlefield (and later battlefront). Uplay for another handful of titles. Steam for my other 200+ titles.

But ED and Star Citizen really give me the s with their separate launcher and update manager.

Please provide a steam key.

You can turn off the steam overlay in steam settings, that way it'll still keep track of your time and not break that immersion

As for better things to spend time on, I really don't consider paint jobs to be more a priority than steam keys.

So, as I predicted, Frontier will finally release the steam keys. This is fantastic news, and I thank Frontier very much for doing the right thing. I also want to thank everyone who posted on this forum, including fuzzy spider, for giving such a vigorous response, I really believe that we all made a difference here. Now we can all focus on being really excited about Power play, which, I now also believe will most likely also be released on the 28th of may, it seems logical that they'd want to do it all at once.
