So I'm doing the current Community Goal for Utopia Research.....the first I've ever done featuring Materials. However, when I looked at the screen where you hand in said materials (& data), it occurred to me that we already have a large chunk of the functionality required for FDev to create a full fledged Material Exchange System.....as seen below:

Effectively, the final product could consist of 2 screens like this one, where you can hand in Data or Materials you have in your inventory, respectively. A 3rd & 4th screen could then show you what materials & data are available at that station that you can pick up in exchange for the stuff you've handed in. Obviously it wouldn't be a 1-for-1 basis, but it could give players an alternative means of obtaining rarer materials/data, but which leaves the salvage of such materials/data as a vital part of the game.
