A question about UC on FC

Here's a simple question that would potentially make a huge difference to a poor explorer like me. Will carrier owners make any credits when another player uses their UC? Is there any way to "trade" this data, where the carrier owner can pay a lower fee and then sell that data at a higher price? Of course I would expect the first discovery tags to remain with the explorer who made the discoveries.

The reason I ask is that I see FCs as a potential mobile base while exploring, but I doubt I'll ever own one myself. But if I could spend a month or two out in deep space and then request another player to jump their carrier to my location so that I can cash in my UC data and also fix up my hull (and potentially switch out ships if I'm so inclined), well that would be compelling to me. Of course it also needs to be compelling for the guy or gal jumping their carrier 5-7 KLY to my personal exploration "bubble", hence my question above.

We'll know more about the UC in beta2, but from my reading on this topic:
  1. FC bank gets 12.5% of all data turned in
  2. There is no reselling of UC data

I feel compelled to point out, in the most neighborly way, no matter how much "explorering" you do in Borann, its not really going to give you any more UC data to sell.

But, yeah. the carrier gets 12.5%, and you get 75%. (The rest is basic sums: 75 + 12.5 = 100, at least in Elite).

Okay, next question - how many of you would, on occasion (say once per month), meet an explorer like me some 5-7 KLY from the Bubble to acquire 12.5 million credits worth of data? This is assuming I can scan 100 million credits worth of systems in that timeframe, which seems optimistic to me. It's not a very lucrative deal, but perhaps there are players who would do this for the gameplay alone, kinda like the Fuel Rats?

There are going to be FCs dotted all over the galaxy - after a few weeks, you'll never be far from one.

Isn't this essentially what DSSA are attempting - not that they come to you, but rather a well know network/array of fleet carriers that you can utilize as an explorer.

I dont think the guys and gals doing this are necessarily looking for a lucrative deal, for them its more about the logistical challenge of setting up and maintaining the array. Its not personally my kind of thing to participate in, but its a very cool idea.

Ironically I normally will want to be far from any FC. I'm not thrilled with urban sprawl ruining my rural galaxy... I'm hoping no FC takes permanent residence close to my country retirement home. That's like a truck stop opening across the street from my farm. No thanks!

It is not like the galaxy will be littered with fleet carriers in every system. Even if everybody on Earth was playing Elite and bought a fleet carrier, we would still be a long way off having one per star system. You will just generally be closer to one.

Even if there were 10,000 carriers out there, its still only 1 per 40,000,000 systems.

Someone will park right next to Old Duck in his beautiful retirement system. To annoy him, for no other reason. Blockin up the scenery and breakin Duck's mind..

One thing I've been wondering is, how will FCs advertise their locations and the services they offer? It would be an amazing coincidence to just come across one. Unfortunately I'm guessing that we'll be relying on out-of-game internet information.

So a thought just occurred to me (it happens) reading this, I wonder how long it will take for someone to set up shop at one of these FC to gank any unsuspecting explorer looking to dock with it?

There will be out of game advertising of locations, but do FCs not also appear on the galaxy map? Or is it only the system map?

As the upkeep is pretty step, I imagine most FC owners will use the UC to 'keep up the payments'. If there is a static FC, every system within 500ly at least will be tagged.

Maybe the hidden agenda here is to get the discovered systems past the 1% mark.

In short though, l don't think any FCs will be coming to you ;)

This might be a strategy for cash strapped FC owners, and would provide excellent game content: don't go exploring if you have a bounty 😎
