A Question for the Mega-Rich, Accomplished Veterans among you...

What keeps you going?

Fun. I have fun. Fun is important. People keep trying to suck the fun out of this game, but Frontier has tried hard to make sure the game doesn't quite take itself too seriously.

Fun is good. So have a ton of fun.

I'm open... hungry for suggestions...

Second account? also consider hard-mode on it. I have three accounts, so I'm really never without things to do. But hard-mode for #3 has been a blast so far, rules are that if I die in SRV or FIGHTER (or as part of multi-crew) it doesn't count - in my ship? it counts. No re-buy. One life to live, and by god do I live it gloriously; died once so far (my own fault! 1v1 type-9 with missiles in my DBX, it didn't end well). CMDR Not Available is now on to generation two, and hopefully this one will survive to my initial target of 100 mil. :)

Oh, and the name is part of the "having fun" part. It's hilarious to see not available transposed where a commander name would be. [up]

But seriously, if folks are feeling a little unchallenged; spin up another account (at this point, it's worth the cash) and go hard-mode. Best fun I've had in ages.

Powerplay, bgs, the promise of spacelegs, atmospheric landings and more things to come.
Just flying through space in the simulation enjoying the wonder of the star systems, exploring in the void, ftl travel, gliding over terrain and canyons of unique planetoids, mining orbital rings under the light of a strange star, the marvel of this groundbreaking & immersive space simulation etc.

That's incredibly lame unless you're certain they're ganking. In which case... anything goes I suppose but that's some grade A passive aggressiveness. I've had losers like this interrupt prearranged fights. Greeefer. Rest of your ideas were great at least.

On the money question - hope everyone who abused the fines system with robigo et al is ready to pay up come 2.4! That'll be funny if they actually do it right.

I don't get it - *I* am lame for running away when attacked without provocation?

I'm not yet mega-rich, but I have over a billion credits (in cash and ships) and over 1500 hours of play.

What keeps me going? Triple Elite. I've gotten Explorer Elite and will get Trader soon (probably within a week or two). That leaves combat. I suck at combat, so that will probably be my focus for a long time.

After that, I'll probably join an expedition and go exploring for a few months. Or maybe fight Thargoids.

When a person reaches a level of competancy and experience, then perhaps the next goal, is to turn all your wisdom and knowledge into mentoring a small group of players to such levels.

Build your troupe, form your wing and as you said select a small faction and help them grow.

Until such things as large player ships, the release of the Thargoids upon us etc... then that would be my suggestion...

Become the Master

What keeps you going?

I come into a bit of a malaise with my ED experience of late. For context I've been plugging away since Beta. I'm Triple Elite. I've engineered every ship I give a damn about engineering to the nth degree. I've seen the sites galaxy wide. I suppose I'm goal driven in a game like this, and over time it's become harder and harder to find new things as checkboxes get ticked, and certainly spent the time with more experiential pursuits with months out exploring away from the bubble.

This isn't a gripe or complaint about the game, not at all, I adore this game but I'm digging for reasons to strap on the headset and jump in. The easy answer is to take a break, spent some time and come back when there's a patch, but the heart is still willing and looking for inspiration.

Some ideas I've been bouncing around internally ...
  • Finally get that CQC Elite squared away, match making makes this rather impractical.
  • Adopt BGS faction somewhere quiet on an edge of the bubble somewhere and start pursuing their interests.
  • Have an top tier engineered version of EVERY craft in the game, sounds totally pointless because I have *the* ship I want for each core role in Elite.
  • Head out to the core again hunting for Planetary Nebulae unknown to EDSM (my last trip I cataloged about 50 of 'em...).

I'm open... hungry for suggestions...

Like others have said, join a player group. Fuel Rats, Canonn etc.

I joined a decent sized player group and there is something for everyone. Playing the BGS trying to expand into other systems, bounty hunting to protect influence. A bit of PvP thrown in. Keeps the game interesting.

1. Join a player faction involved with BGS

2. Collect enough resources to get a fully "God" rolled ship/s

3. Get another account and start from scratch

Number - 3

You could always opt to have a self imposed - no rebuy and start with Sidewinder after each ship destruction, (wait, doesn't Cmdr Isinona do this? Perpaps that is where I heard the idea).

Here's something to try. Take your Zodiac Sign (ie; Capricorn) Identify the real life starts in that constellation; find them in ED - go visit. I did it with my sign (Cancer) and it took me many LYs to travel to all the main stars.

The only thing I'll say about this one is be prepared for what you're getting into. The BGS (this is all my observation) wasn't mean to be "played" as people play it, it was meant to be a background simulation that keeps things in the bubble ebbing and flowing. Be prepared for delayed results (waiting for the tick), influence grinding, and thankless victories (because in the end, you as a CMDR gain nothing).

That being said, there can be a great roleplay element to latching onto a faction or set of factions and working it/them.

This!

Be prepared, the BGS can be hard work - but very rewarding to achieve long and short term goals. There are steep learning curves, limited official documentation, regular tweaking of mechanics, and its tough to do alone - virtually impossible in busy areas. Join a group and learn the ropes - soon you'll be bitten by the BGS hamster and become another tick junkie.

I took the option of taking a break, just cant imagine anything interesting to do in Elite right now. Not played since last year, and just waiting for THAT patch\update to give me the reason to return.

I have 5.3 billion CR on hand. I think total is somewhere near 8. I would trade it all for a "special items" storage :D Currently have lots of UA, UP, UL and stuff and cant do anything without getting attacked. But getting the items again can be a pain.

I can tell you for a fact that having "just" 500mil + your desired ships is enough. You can slowly grind more but anything over a billion liquid and you wont know what to do with it. You may want to buy every ship and A-grade them but thats it.

But despite being "rich" I still do missions, bounty hunting, trading, CGs and pretty much everything I did before big bucks... Its the Elite and I love it. Sometimes (like now) I take a break but always return.

I was considering a slow trip toward the Sag A (get there in a month or so) but recent activities "forced" me to stay. Anyway, good to have 2 accounts in Elite if you can. One Main for 85% of the gameplay and one for extra activities. Maybe I do get another one. If nothing else, storage would be nice ^^

I only have hundreds of millions, instead of billions. I've blown it all on ship tinkering (billions), and cute NPC's. Stopped doing the latter.

Question: If the PvP players ask us why we only play in solo, where the challenge is less, why do they continue to play in open, against unchallenging NPC's?

Answer: They want to win. All. The. Time. And when NPC's get boring, they Go Full Moriarty. Because there is nothing like winning, combined with schadenfreude.
